  • Lining Up Your Shots

I'm hitting almost all of my shots about 10 to 20 deg. straight left ----I generally line up my shoulders parallel to the target. I think Jack Nicklaus suggested or did this.
"Lay a club across your toes" says my barber. Seems to know his golf.
"Not so, across you heels" says a friend, suggesting that your feet may or may not splay out or in.
Playing partner says "Line up your hips and then don't turn them on the downswing, just shift your hips and weight to the left."

You already know my question, right? What do you guys do?
    Thanks...Wil

    Re: Lining Up Your Shots

Regardless of where your heels, toes, and hips are lined up, it is the shoulders that pretty much tell the arms where to swing. The arms follow the shoulders. Now if the arms are not aligned with the feet, heels, and hips, compensations to the swing might happen, unless a specialty shot is being tried. Sometimes I miss right of my target because my shoulders inadvertently get aligned right of my target. If you are missing left, your shoulder might be aligned left of your intended target even though you might think they are parallel with your target line. It doesn't take much.

You also might be aligned properly but swinging from out to in with the club face square to the path of the club, which will cause straight pulls left for the right handed golfer. Focus on swinging into the ball from in to out. Ball position might be an issue. Try moving it back a little if you think it is too far forward in your stance. Just my $0.02 worth.

Also, are your clubs fitted to your swing? GJS

Thanks GJS-I'll try moving the ball back an inch or two for the irons.
Funny thing; I pulled the Burner 3 wood out of mothballs and for some unknown reason, it flies dead straight! Go figure! ...Wil
