  • Sick of golf

Have loved the game of golf over the past few years but sadly looks like a divorce is imminent
I have struggled To hit an iron correctly for months and now I'm mentally scarred from hitting so many bad shots
I've taken a break, I've had regular tuition all to no avail
it's no longer enjoyable and mediocrity is not an option

That's sad Ian I know how much you have put into your game and you seemed to be improving so well.

Maybe a short layoff and some contemplation will do you good. Is the problem one of Sh**k*** or poor impact? If I can be of any help at all then please PM me.

      Re: Sick of golf

Getting a way from the game is sometimes the best medicine. Put the bag in a dark corner some where, forget about it, and do something else for while. What ever you decide to do don't even think about golf. At some point in your future the urge will return. You will go find your clubs again. You will give them thorough cleaning. You will eventually head for a golf course with fresh, easy, clear headed swing thoughts, or better yet no swing thoughts, and you will have fun again. Happens to all of us from time to time. For me it's usually my favorite putter that I get cross ways with. A few days, or even weeks hanging from a garage rafter usually solves our differences. I have also been known to change out drivers on a regular basis. Other times I just don't touch my sticks for a week or more.

I recently had a boating accident, and could not swing my clubs for a few weeks. Now that was pure torture for me. For a while I thought I was going to be forced to give up golf. For many days I would try to swing a 7i, and my body would say "nope not yet". Fortunately I am able to play again, and the walking part is actually therapy for the injury to my hip/back. Still can't play the piano however.

Hold on Slats, been there, hated it - still mediocre - but improving again. Don't give up.

        Serious advice?

Take the missus away for a romantic week-end (without the clubs) and then forget the game for a week. Then, find a new coach or ten.

        Really?Yes!

You mention regular tuition with no improvement. So go out there be a pro-tart until you find one whose images click. Be ruthless. No improvement in the hour? Walk away and find another. Someone out there has the key swing thought that will get you back on track.

Might even be Brian, unless he's used all his helping my chipping .

What a nightmare mate. I really do feel for you as I have just been through the same thing. For a year or more I just could not do anything right. But, thanks very much to this site and one or two members in particular I am playing decent enjoyable golf. I am also like you, going round and playing c..p is not an option. Don't give up.

have you seen a pga professional? usually the correction is much easier than you think, remeber 80% of a correct swing starts with the setup.

You seemed to be making improvement some time back with the 3 Skills. Have you thought about re-visiting that again?

yes, i have revisited 3skills and thankfully my form has returned,
hitting soild irons shots again as the the confidence comes back

only last week shot a 10 under nett 60 with 2 pitches going in for eagle and averaged 284yds of the tee with driver from 7 drives

2 things i monitor now are how far i stand from the ball and making sure the clubhead stays outside the hands on the takeaway

                        Re: Sick of golf

just back from playing the presidents day comp, slightly surpised it was stableford format as its a major
sunny and bright but the breeze made it a little on the cool side :freeze:
started off with a par, then blobbed the 2nd as a wicked bounce put my tee shot in a ditch, was a little greedy with my approach shot and ended up in the face of a greenside bunker, downnhill lie and very little sand so 4 shots later i picked up :cry
parred the par 5 3rd and eagled the par 4 4th to get back on track, i then had 2 1 pointers which was criminal after being 90yds from the pin with my drives (desperately require a GW) made a hash of the par 3 9th having to hit 3 off the tee and so another blob, finished the front 9 with 16 points
had 7 pars, 1 birdie and 1 bogey to shoot 26 points on the back 9 to finish with 42 points was clubhouse leader for all of 5 mins till a guy in the next group hit a hole in 0ne on the last for 5 points and took over the lead with 45
should think a little cut is on its way and could be off 14 next time i play
