Can anyone please help?
I have been out of the game now for a number of years but have since renewed my interest. Getting frustrated with my inconsistency, I decided to get a lesson from a pro. This was most helpful with my shorter irons but the moment I use a longer iron or wood, I'm all over the place! I am now hitting the ball worse with these clubs than I ever have before! Almost contemplating going back to my old habits.....

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: Can anyone please help?
Persevere... I did the same thing just last week (resulting in laser short irons, and mi**** long irons - mostly pushes). But I took in a round last night, and when I swung the right way, it felt effortless, added 10-15 yards, (in fact, I had a 280 yd drive last night- a first for me! (a 55yd improvement)), and went straight. But to start, it was just short irons.
So keep at it, keep practicing the 'new swing' until the new swing is the normal swing... and enjoy more success.

Brownie,
Stick with what the pro has taught you. You are going to get worse before you get better. There is a large adjustment period (usually about 500 balls - 10 buckets at the range), but when everything starts to click you will be playing a completely different game. To make sure you are still practicing the right techniques, visit your pro about once a month to ensure you are on the right track.

Brownie,
Stick with the pros advice, takes me about three weeks to start feeling normal again.
REMEMBER: Confidence is at least 80% of the swing!!!!!!

Re: Can anyone please help?
Just an update - a week and a half later, I was +2 clubs for all distances (ie hit a 7 iron where I was hitting a 5 iron), after diligently using the 'new swing'. Now it's easy... and the 'new swing' is now 'my swing'.
Just a reminder - keep at it. It's like the old axiom, 'fake it until you make it'.
