  • Etiquette: Order of Play

I know the order of play generally but how does it apply in mixed groups?

The other day I went down for a solo round and there was a woman at the first tee also alone so we decided to walk round together.

Since she was already teed up (and there is only 5 yards difference between the tees) she went first but from there on in I went first then we walked up to the Ladies tee.

As it happened I think had the honour anyway all the way round but I was wondering what would happen in mixed four balls where the honour moved around between the players?

    Hey Robin,

Don't know if there is any rule. Commonsense would have the fellas hitting first as they are furtherist from the hole. That's how I have played and seen others play.

    Good talking with you

Hi Robin, I hope all is well.

When we play in mixed matches the Men tee off first in order of honour, the Ladies then tee in order.

That sounds the right way to do it.

Mind you, I have seen some poor stuff lately; the men marching off leaving the ladies behind and so on.

Me I'm good. Having a small reunion with the holiday golfers tomorrow [Fri] will let you know if the scales of golfing justice swing back in my favour.
