  • Full membership/Annual Fees

our local club due to the economic downturn has suggested we now may let annual members have the same rights as full members.

    a full vote at meetings.
    could be made Captain.

the annual members outnumber the full membership.

does anyone think this is wrong, seems to me to be a waste of cash becoming a full member

how is it done in other clubs????

    Re: Full membership/Annual Fees

Our club doesn't have annual memberships as such but we do have two classes of membership.

A Full Membership has unlimited play (or 50-18 hole passes / 80-9 hole passes), 10-day advance booking, and charge account privileges in pro shop/lounge/restaurant as well as the membership being fully transferable.

A Single Membership costs 70% of a Full Membership, unlimited play, 7-day advance booking, and charge account privileges but is non transferable. Single Membership can be upgraded to Full Membership by paying the difference in initial cost.

While this is not directly comparable to your club's situation it would seem appropriate to differentiate Full and Annual memberships in some ways such as advance booking time, for example. If your Full Memberships are transferable, or even partially transferable, that in itself is a pretty significant differentiation. Otherwise, like you say, what is the point in putting out the cash for a Full Membership.

    EDIT:
I forgot to mention Annual Dues. The annual dues for a Single Membership are about 25% higher than the annual dues for a Full membership, a further differentiation between the two classes of membership.

Regarding BrianW's question in post #3, at our club Full and Single membership costs are a one time fee paid to the golf club to gain the benefits of membership. These membership benefits endure from year to year with payment of annual dues. While we don't have Annual Memberships, I would take them to be an annual fee paid to the golf club that gives membership benefits that expire after one year. Without some benefits such as lower annual dues for Full and Single memberships compared to Annual memberships, membership transferability and/or other things such as tee time booking priority it would seem to me that Full and Single memberships would be worthless if Annual membership with the same privileges were available.

full membership was 3,500 euro and 690 euro yearly subs.

annual membership is just paying the 690 each year

So annual membership means you dont pay a joining fee? I can see your problem with this if you have paid it and they are offering it FOC now.

I guess the issue is that if your club wants to attract new members it has to offer a competitive package to that of other clubs in the area.
