  • Was it the back ?

I played in my clubs first Winter competition Monday, I almost didn't play as I had a stinking cold and was suffering a sore back.

However I decided to give it a go as I had entered it and we were out in two balls and would have let my playing partner down at the last minute. Did my normal pre-match warm up then hit a few balls in the nets followed by some putting on the practice green. My back still felt tight so I decided to play easy swings and keep the pressure off.

Well!!! what a round of golf: Drives long down the middle, long and short irons dropping on target. Had a confidence with putting that dropped them in clean time and time again.

Shot 3 over, this was my best round of the year, come to think of it and last year This gave me 40 Stableford points which unfortunately was not enough to win I was runner up, someone came in with 41 points . Never mind, runner up with a nice little cash prize was nice.

Now!!! Should I play golf like I have a sore head and back more often?

I played with someone the other week who had some injury or another which restricted him to a easy 3/4 swing. Best I've seen him play.

There's definitely something in all of this!

Had some of my best rounds when not being 100% or sometimes totally knackered.

I think you don't expect much so you just play. Then "Hey Presto!"

Perhaps its because you didnt expect a good round, you were not attached to it and put no pressure on yourself. We all generally play better when we are relaxed and have nothing to lose - congratulations on the round and 2nd place - nice work!
