A shank is also known as a "chili pepper", "ole stank bait" or "the willies" in our area!!!!!

I had the shanks bad last year. I broke the heads off two drivers last year on back to back holes. The second driver was my brother in laws.
I had a little over the top with a lunge move that was real hard on the hosel.

Not necessarily, it can also be due to just standing too close, or lunging from the top.

Amazingly, when you did shank with the iron the ball flew right! But with the driver it flew left.

As the name says it all...I am very new to golf and do all of the above. It's not as bad as when I first started, but having a consistent swing is harder than it looks for me. I work out and bench press 300-335 pounds, so muscling the ball, instead of naturally using shoulders and hips to power is a big problem for me, and I played baseball for 14 years straight, so the baseball swing and lifting of the leadoff foot is just now getting under control. But yes, the address is definitely a big issue for me...among 1003 other technique problems. This is the only game that I've ever played where I sucked so bad, but can't wait to get more punishment! LOL
