  • Best shot ever

    Ok Guys,

Lets here about the best shot you have ever played.

Strictly no hole in ones please.

    I'll Start.

15 at my course stroke index 1,

I drove 250 straight into the left bunker trying to cut this dog leg left. I was left with a very tight 185-190 yards to the green and I had to clear the small tree about 100 from the bunker.

7 wood in hand I hit the ball clean as a whistle with high flight, the ball landed and stopped dead at approx 6inches.

    I still don't know why I hit a 7 wood!!!!!!

    Re: Best shot ever

    Great thread Ian!

My best shot was on the 18th hole at the course I worked at. I duffed my drive and I was sitting 225 - 230 yrds out with water hazzard in front of an extremely two teered green. I pulled my 3 iron out, landing on the front fringe, the ball rolled up and hung onto the top teer, about 4 feet from the pin. Please don't ask if I made the putt!!!

      Hmmmm

North Berwick Glen 8th hole Summer Foursomes 1994 378 Yards Par 4. My partner and I are 6 down!!!!!! after 7. Needless to say I'm a bit annoyed by this time. My turn to hit the drive. I ask my partner where he would prefer to hit the second shot from. He says 'three feet from the hole' in jest. So I say 'Ok might as well'. The hole is a gentle dogleg left taylor made for my draw. I have a little bit of a tailwind, maybe half a clubs worth. So I loosen myself up and have a lash. It's dead on line but the green is out of sight. I know its a good thump but I have no idea how far it went. We get over the ridge in the fairway and look for the ball in the LHS rough. All a sudden one of the guys in the group in front shouts over 'It's on the green!!' So we look up and there it is just in the fringe at the back about 25 feet from the cup. My partner rolls it to 2 feet and I hole out for the birdie. We win six of the next 9 holes and clinch the match on the 18th!!!

I have others probably as good, but thats the one that stands out.

That would have to be my first birdie. Hole #8 par 4 and I'm lying 2, 17 yards from the cup in the fairway. My short game is non-existent, so I pull out the texas wedge, figuring I'll just try to get 'er close. Well, it took a hop sideways as the ball crossed the fringe, and jumped in the cup.

I have a lot also, hereis one from this year.

Learning long drive this year has been difficult but rewarding. I take a long drive club on the course for an open hole. #7 is a 340 yard par 4 always dead into the wind in the summer. I hit a low screamer that didn't get up high but just kept hanging in there. I seen it hop just in front of the green, but couldn't see where it went. We get up there and the guys on the other tee box said it hit the pin and stayed out. They showed me where it hit, one hop and stopped. That was the first time I drove a green over 300 yards.

            Nice one Golfbald.

I have a similar one to that. The eighth at my home course is a straight along par four about 340 yards also, although on the day inquestion the tee was moved forwards to about 320ydsat the front of the green theres one of those truly awful little kidney shaped bunkers on the right (which the pin is cut about 3 yards right behind) and a big grass mound on the left. The funnel through is about 10 yards wide. Without much thought I step up and let fly, ball sails down the fairway and lands at about 290 yards, since this was my ill fated Taylor Made 7.5° Titanium Bubble Driver period the ball was travelling about 12 feet off the ground at the time. It lands in the lush grass in front of the green and takes a real kind kick right and rolls up 3 feet from the cup. A rather shaky putt later and I walk off the green with a two! A real fluke-y shot but I'm claiming it.

How about including your Luckiest Shots in this thread as well??? I got tons of those, couple of which happened today.

              Re: Best shot ever

I just need to preface this and say I have only been playing about 5 months, so my bet shot my not be all that spectacular, but it made me very happy. It was a short par 4 about 320 yards, however the the fairway was blind. Off the tee all you saw was about 50 yards of hillside. The fairway is very narrow, so I took a 5 wood to try and keep it on the fairway. I swung it easy and that with the combo of the height of the hill I only got about 150 yards, but dead in the middle. Now I had about 170 yards going downhill. The green sloped downwards away from me with a deep overgrown creek behind the it (instant lost ball if I went long). I took a 5-iron, breathed deep and prayed. I caught it perfect. I saw it hit, take a small hop and stop by the pin. Walked up and I was about 2 feet away. However I was happiest about the fact that after looking at the ballmark I saw the ball only moved about 9 inches after it landed. Thats something I have always had trouble with. I was playing by myself and of course there was no one on any holes around me(as always happens on my best shots) so I just did a little kooky dance. I might just be able to learn this game after all.

My first eagle was on a short par 4, about 290 yards. I used to work nights and went for a round as soon as I got off work, which were usuallly by myself. The tee is extremely elevated so it played even shorter. Most could drive the green with 3 and 5 woods. I ended up hitting 3 iron and landed in the trap on the right, pin high. I dug in and chopped out of the sand. When I got on the green, my ball was no where to be found. I looked all around and finally looked in the cup and to my suprise I holed out from the sand!

Mine was at the 2nd hole on the west course at royal melbourne. It's a 480yard par 5. I managed a driver down the middle, but my second shot was the best all over it from the moment it left the face of the club, it struck the flag stick and finished 5 feet away - an easy eagle

I chipped in for the first time the other day... what a feeling. Although I have only been playing a short amount of time this is by far my best shot. I was about 6 feet off the green and about 30 feet from the hole.

Hi Guys , I'm new to the site, only joined a few days ago, I've being playing a couple of years now, but only once a month so i've never built up any consistency. my best shot was a slice believe it or not. It was on the 18th after a so so round. my drive left me 10 yards behind a large tree, my only options were to hit it back the way I came or to try and hit it left and bring it back online. need less to say I wasn't conservative, This is my favorite shot because I deliberately tried to slice the ball and it came off. i couldn't see the result straight away but the shot itself felt good, it landed just off the fringe of the green. Three puts finished off my round but I just couldn' get over my slice, because I knew what I wanted and made it happen, sweeet!

Slow left bending 550yd par 5, flat, but with a cart path that runs the entire length on the right...pushed a monster drive out to the right, but had some draw to it and cought the path not once, but three times finally resting 75 yards from the green. My partners were ill.

Another time during a playing lesson after talking about how to play the hole, options, risks, rewards etc...I played 2 balls just to show the differences. 525 Par 5, very hilly and if you catch the drive just right it can hit the hill on the back side and kick it a ways. My risk ball ended up 175 yds from the island green where I hit my 7I into the hole for a 2. "See...", I said. "Lots of rewards!"

My best shot ever was quite recently. It was 2 shots actually but who's counting!

I was playing into a gale force wind on a shortish par 4 (about 400yds). I take my driver for the day, a Cleveland 460, and throw the ball on the ground (no tee). I hit it off the deck and pured it straight down the middle. I was 165yds out and pull a 6-iron. I choke down and put my best swing on it. The ball flew straight at the flag, lands 3ft passed the pin, spins back and stops on the lip.

                            Tap-in birdie ... ho-hum ... yawn!

A blind flop shot to a very elevated green from a wooded area deep in pinestraw that rolled in to save par. God I love this game.
