  • Selection Policies for Club Representative Sides

Howdy Campers... Apologies for being a no show for a while now.....

During my hiatus here, my club's pennant side was succesful in winning our grade in this season's competition.

Being Captain of my Club, and in the absence of any other volunteers for the job, the role of "Pennant Captain" also fell to me.

So, bearing in mind the qualification criteria set by our League, I selected a side of 8 players each week of the competition, from the list of 14 names of those putting themselves forward for selection.

We won 4 of 6 of our home and away matches, to finish on top of our division, then going on to win the final.

Yes, all this is leading to a question....

It seems you can't keep everybody happy all of the time because, 2 of the 14 players who put themselves up for selection, didn't get a game during the season and this fact alone has brought about some heated discussions over the last week or so.

Those aggrieved are saying that all who nominate should get a game, whilst others are saying that the end result of winning a pennant flag justifies the selection policy used.

So, when it comes to selection of a representative match play side, which of the two schools of thought do you subscribe to...???

Will be interested to hear your thoughts......

    Thanking you in advance.

Re: Selection Policies for Club Representative Sides

My opinion is that if any of the players who put themselves up for selection do not meet your League or your Club's criteria for selection, i.e they are not good enough?, then they should be told so and not just ignored for participation in any of the games. Otherwise, I think that everyone who has put up for competition should participate to some degree appropriate to their ability to contribute to the Club's success. They should play in at least one game.
