  • Greens Fees Around the World

Hello all you "Hackers" out there: Maybe I can get some of you fellows to "Jump In" on this one. What does it cost to play 18 on a decent public course where you live? I'll start. I live on Long Island, NY. I play at the Crab Meadow Golf Club which is a beautiful course on Long Island Sound in Huntington, LI NY. Blue Tees = 6574 Yards - Par 72 - 71.6/125. This is a Town course which means if you are a resident and have a golf card (Issued by the town to residents only) you can play 18 holes on a week-day for $15.00 (7.81GBP) if you are a Senior (Which I am.) To the general public (Non-Resident) it costs $25.00 regular/$17.00 Senior. I'm curious what it costs around the globe to play 18, week-day, walking (With pull cart), regular fee and senior fee? Anyone?

    Hi John,

In the UK for a public course it varies between £12.00 and £20.00 depending on the course conditions.

At my course which is Private you can play with a member for £15.00 weekday only but if you play without a member it is £30.00 and Wednesday afternoon only.

I played the Brabazon course at the Belfry last Monday where the Ryder Cup was held it cost £75.00, it is normally £125.00 but my friend had just purchased some clubs for £600.00 after a professional fitting.

      Hi John,
I am a member of a course in Ireland which I think charges around €35 for green fees which seems to be about average . I dont think there are any discounts for seniors . I saw a report in a local paper last week that listed the cost of average green fees for each country in Europe & Ireland was listed as one of the cheapest (something I find very hard to believe ) . If you want to play someplace exclusive it costs €1000 for a group of 4 to play the Old head of Kinsale which unless you are very rich is a complete waste of money . I've played 2 fine links courses (Carne & Enniscrone) which cost approx €40 each , well worth the cost if you are ever over in this part of the world .

          Good evening,

I play in Queensland, Australia we pay $20-$25 for a good course and anywhere from $55-$85 on a championship course.
We tend to have alot of resort stlye courses here which look fantastic but even better are quite easy to shoot good scores on (just play straight).

New Zealand is pretty much the same on price.

Here in Northern Ontario, the courses are plentiful, and the golf is cheap. On my local course (9 hole) it's $17 for 9, $22 for 18 on the weekend, and 15/20 on weekdays. Membership is $525 for the year. It's sloped and rated right down the middle - 69 and 113. The championship courses in the area are around $50-$75, and resort courses (such as Taboo) are much more - almost $200/pp.

In the Edmonton (North central) area of Alberta golf is much more expensive than Ontario! Memberships run from $1,300 - $2,500 and have waiting lists a mile long. Greenfees are about $30 and up for Mon- Thurs, $40 and up for Fri - Sun (Northern Bear and many other high end courses are $135 and up). The Calgary (Southern) area of Alberta is even more expensive!

Sounds like the same pricing structure around Toronto and Ottawa! To think that for driving 1 hr, you can save 50% or more on green fees, and still play great golf.

That's similar to here. If you drive 1 or 2 hours towards the country prices drop considerably. It works great on the weekends, but makes it a bit tough after work during the week!

Thankfully my buddy is the F&B manager at one of the courses close to my house and he gets us out once or twice a week for free.

Wonderful and informative posts and thank you all for joining in. It would appear that we all face the same general situations but press on due to our passion for the game! Here on Long Island, NY where I live, when Tiger happened on the scene, golf took a tremendous upswing in popularity, much like the Tennis Boom in the 70s and 80s. They started building Golf Courses everywhere and today on this island of 3 million people which is 110 miles X 24 miles, we have over 116 golf courses! I read a statistic somewhere recently that the average cost for 18 holes in the USA is $40.00. Thats AVERAGE! They have courses here like Shinnecock and Southampton that cost around $325. The Bethpage Black Course where they played the US Open is 6 miles from my house. That is a PUBLIC COURSE!!! It is one of 5 in the complex which is a New York State Park. The courses here are very nice, and I can tell you....God help the poor fool who does not observe proper conduct with respect to the gentle care of our courses. Its not the "Super" who will get him rather its the other golfers who will get him! Keep the replys coming. I for one am enjoying them immensely! BTW: To all you Canadians, So Sad we lost "Pipeline" Moe Norman. He was one of a kind!

Re: Greens Fees Around the World

Here in west central Georgia, 4 of the local courses here are on the same price schedule $18 ($12 for members[45 a month and entitles membership to all 4 courses]) for 18 during the week and $28 (22 for members) on the weekend. I played at callaway gardens' Mountain View course (former home of the Buick Challenge) for $5 bucks (had a friend working there) which is normally $60-90 depending on what time of the year it is. They're two other courses at callaway and they range $30-70. The two 9 hole courses I play at range from 12-25 dollars for 18 and depending on the shape of the greens, 10 bucks even at Roosevelt for 9. I play 6 courses around here and have never spent more than 30 bucks for a round of golf, all have a course rating and slope as well. I'm kinda out here in the country though, further north you go the prices avg 35-60 bucks for the nicer courses.

The 4 courses on the same price schedule also offer unlimited golf for 120 bucks a month at any of the 4, all are 18 holes. $1460 a year

Hi there, in New Zealand green fees range from $15 to $20 around the area that I live. That includes 8 courses in a 40 kilometer radius.

                            Cheers

Hello all and hi to fellow georgian Durtman.

Georgia's state parks offer a great value on some truly fine public courses. I just got an email from the Highland Walk course (blues 6420 yds 71.4/131)and it is in gorgous shape, greens look better than your carpet, but fast and breaking. $36 on the weekends, $30 on the weekdays (includes cart) $23 and $17 (no cart).

                              winter specials-
Mondays--Senior Day (age 62+)--$20.00...fee good all day!
Tuesdays--Two for Tuesday"; Two greens fees for the price of one--$21.50 each
Wednesdays--"Four for Three" ; Four players get to play for the price of three--$22.50 each
Thursdays--"Twilight Thursday"--The twilight rate of $23.00 is valid all day and with unlimited play.
                              all above include cart.
Winter Pass: The pass is $50.00 good from January 1st through February 28th. unlimited greens fees for these two months--any day, any time. Cart fee is required.

this is a great course - but way too hilly to walk. Arrowhead and Hard Labor are also state parks that are about the same price and in great shape.
