  • Kids had their first lesson today.

Matthew Duke was the instructor who took the leson. He told then he wants them to remember three things, Hands, Body, and Aim. He showed them how to grip the club, Then how to setup lean forward bend your knees and put your feet 50/50 apart. And last he showed then their train tracks, and got them to do a swing swing with the clubs.

later in the lesson he had then do 9 oclock with the club then cock the wrists and swing the club. It was good to see my children towards the end of the lesson hitting the ball in the air instead of along the ground from tees of coarse.

My three year old got the idea of holding the club with her left hand higher than her right where before she would automaticly grab it anyway. She also now understands swinging it back first instead of hitting the ball like a hockey stick. hehehe instead of her ball going 30cm to a metre she was getting it around 7 metres along the ground ofcoarse.

My 5 year old didn't get the idea of hitting the ball straqight she was over swinging and trying to slam it. The 7 year old twins got the idea of trying to knock the tee out of the ground and were excited about having a ball they were hitting their irons around 30 metres with a good 20 of that in the air.

A $40 well spent I think we will be taking then every 2nd week to start with.

talking of kids learning to play golf. I have an 11 month year old nephew and cant wait till he's old enough to play golf and other sports.

What age should kids be started off in golf. I know tiger had his first lesson at two but I don't want him to feel forced into golf.

I mentioned this in another post - let the kids tell you when it is time for them to start. If the kid shows interest, then take him/her out to the practice green and let them put for a while. Don't worry about correct technique - let them have fun. If they have fun and actually want to start hitting balls on the range, get them some lessons. When they start hitting the ball consistantly (not consistantly perfect, just consistantly making contact) then take them out on a par 3 course on a slow day.
