Re: The New Pro V1 Is On Its Way!

      Thanks guys,

I think I will just go pick up a dozen of each and see how the are. Just got my tax return so I've got a little bit of money or "testing" as I tell my wife. I have a question off the subject of this thread. I was at the PX "Post Exchange" on base and back in the sports area they've got a quite a few clubs, mostly Wilson and Knight's. However, there were some wedges which I can't remember who made them, but had a sticker on it that said "May not conform to USGA standards or regualations." How does a company that makes a club not know if it conforms to the "rules of golf?" I mean it was obviously a clone or knock-off, but that's still a little crazy not to know if your own equipment conforms to USGA standards. Anyone know how this can happen?

Thanks for the info on the balls again.

        Travis,

Remember we have the USGA who look after Canada, USA and Mexico with 1 set of rules on equipment. Then there's the R&A who look after the rest of us with a slightly different set of rules on equipment.

But remember, non-conforming clubs are not illegal provided you are not taking part in a competition or submitting the round for handicapping purposes. That is what makes them 'legal' - you can use them for social play.

Yeah, I have all sorts of stuff ... problem is I am in SA and you're in the UK! It's going to cost about GBP60 to ship it to you! If you wait until June I'll pack one in for you.

                DNA,

You would be amazed at the cost of shipping goods, especialy if you get into international shipping. There is a lot of moving parts that go into shipping goods and the customer pays for these parts by packing costs and shipping costs. When you deal with international shipping then at a minimum you are going to have two customs inspections, one depending on the country of origin. Logistics is a complex industry. If you want a in depth scoop on it I can give it to you. I work logistics for the U.S. Marine Corps. I've also been to several other countries (19) and been able to see and train with customs inspectors and also individuals in the freight forwarding business. That's a whole seperate beast in itself. Bottom line. If your package is getting on a plane or boat and it's a bulk item not a flat (letter) it will cost a pretty penny (or pound) whatever you confounded Brits call it.

                    DNA,

You're right. I will clarify. You must also take into account the value of the item which you intend to ship. Also, are you going to insure this package, how soon do you need or want it to arrive at it's destination and who are you using as a carrier. Parcell services can be cheap, but a general rule is the faster you want it to move the more expensive it gets. With that, the more care you want your parcell to recieve the more expensive it gets. For example I shipped a box to Japan from North Carolina. Granted the box weighed 300+ lbs and was 48x48x48. It cost a little over $3,000(US). We also moved it slow. It had many stops and connecting flights so we could get it as cheap as possible. Anyways, unless you really want to pay the $60 I would wait till June. Have patience, Teach will be in England soon enough. Atleast he's coming. You didn't hear him say he was coming to America did ya'.

For the money, XL3000s are good. But, at that price of new XL3000s you can also get 'experienced' premium balls for roughly the same cost. As long as they are an AA or AAA there should be nothing wrong with these used balls. They were probably only hit once, MAYBE twice.....

RE: Maxfli Noodle - I've loved noodles as a beginner player. They're softer than some of the distance rocks out there (top flite **cough hack**), but as for a spin ball? Not really.

I found as my technique improved, I was able to hold greens better, and noodles held better than top flites.

That said, I'm starting this season with Top Flite 3000XL's, which are supposed to be like the poor mans' Noodle.

If you get the 'Super Spin' or 'Super Feel' XL3000s, they aren't too bad. The 'Super Long' XL3000s are low spin as well as a bit harder and are very hard to control.

I got a box of Titleist DT Solo for Xmas last year and like how soft they are. My wife hit some and she thinks they are softer then her lady golf balls she buys.

Have any of you tried Titleist NXT?
I saw they were rated by some of the golf analysts the ball for the rest of us to use (non tour players).
And was thinking about trying some.
