  • Whats in your bag

Following on from the thread ball distance I thought it might be interesting to find out what your bag combos and distances are......

My Bag all irons are Callaway X 16 pro series 9-3 and 3 wedges are Callaway rusty/dull finish.

    58 Degree lob 90yds
    52 Degree 115yds
    pitching wedge 125yds
    9 iron 140yds
    8 iron 150yds
    7 iron 160yds
    6 iron 170yds
    5 iron 180yds
    4 iron 190yds
    3 iron 200yds
    7 wood Cobra 180-190yds
    3 wood Cobra 235 yds
    R7 driver 270yds

I have always carried a 7 wood instead of a five wood because its great out of the rough and you get a really high flight that stops on the green...I can get 210yds from the fairway on a good day.

    What do you carry????

    Ian.

    Re: Whats in your bag

    That's really interesting.

I use x-16 knockoffs (fireform ERT) irons. I use a clevland 60degree reg.588, Ping knock off 3 wood and 5 wood stainless. And a Wilson fat shaft.

    LW 80 yards
    sw 110
    pw120
    9 140
    8 150
    7 160
    6 170
    5 180
    4 190
    3 200
    5 wood 210
    3 wood 230
    driver 260

I use a reg flex in all my clubs except the driver which says it's stiff but the pro who sold it to me told me that it's firm somewhere between reg and stiff.

      Re: Whats in your bag

I use John Letters T5's irons, got a 52* cleveland 588 diadic wedge, John Letters 60* rusty lw, John letters TXD 3 & 5 wood (both graphite shafted) with a Taylor made R540 (8.5* with stiff proforce shaft).I use a white Hot #4 putter. All my shafts are regular apart from my driver.

my average carry with each club is.

      lw: 70 yds
      sw: 100 yds
      pw: 115 yds
      9i: 135 yds
      8i: 145 yds
      7i: 155 yds
      6i: 165 yds
      5i: 175 yds
      4i: 185 yds
      3i: 195 yds
      5w: 210 yds
      3w: 230 yds
      driver: 250 yds

Im 6ft and weigh 143 pounds. Do you think these distances are ok for my size and weight???? My clubhead spped with my driver was 106 mph. That was a year ago though!Just started working out again with loads and loads of stretching as struggle to get a full comfortable shoulder turn.

        Re: Whats in your bag

I use Hogan Edge CFT irons SW-3I, Adams Redline 7W, 5W & 3W, Titleist 983K driver and not forgetting the Odyssey White Hot putter.

Ian, I absolutely agree with your comments on the 7W. A very versatile club and good for those rescue shots. I really rate the Adams Redline fairway woods, I rarely hit a bad shot with them and they fly long with a lovely flight. A friend of mine recently bought a Ping G2 5W and wished he'd saved the money and bought the Adams instead.

I'll be buying one or two wedges in the near future, Cleveland Tour Action 588 most likely and will probably drop the 3I out of the bag as I can't remember the last time I used it. I hit the 4I often enough but I strike the 7W better than the 3I and about 10 yards further than the 4I.

I haven't posted the yardages as the prevailiing wind and undulations of the course I play never give a "normal" distance. Even the driving range plays either downwind, downhill or upwind, uphill so it can make 4 clubs difference!

I use a Ashton MS-5 9.5* driver, Ashton 3W, 3-PW Titleist DTR irons, Cleveland 588 56* and 60* wedges and a Cleveland "Designed by" putter.

I use the Maxfli Revolution Tour.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the distances you have. I'm 6'2" and about 180 lbs. Two years ago I was 155 lbs and I had the exact same distances you posted with almost the same swing speed. It wasn't my increase in size that increased my distances though, it was coming down steeper on the ball and getting my swing path to come from the inside that increased my distances.

                  Re: Whats in your bag

                  I have in my bag:

Mizuno T-Zoid Pro II irons 3-PW True Temper Dynamic Gold R400
Mizuno Black Ox 52° and 56° True Temper Dynamic Gold S300
                  Mizuno MP-001 9° Driver Grafalloy Prolite 35s
Titleist 975F 20.5° True Temper Dynamic Gold X100

and I alternate between the following

Lynx Boom Boom 16° Lynx Stiff Graphite Shaft
Mizuno MP-001 16.5° 4 Wood True Temper Dynamic Gold S300

If you are wondering why so many flexes in the set I will explain:

I like a heavy regular shaft on my irons for a combination of control (the weight) and more spin (the flex).

I have stiff shafts on the wedges for control since they spin loads as they are.

and I have Stiff shafts on the woods for the launch angle. The X100 on the 20.5° is purely for control since I use it mostly out of the rough and its for accuracy rather than distance.

Experiment with your own set ups.

                  D.
