  • 18 Pars

Today was the weirdist round of my life.

I made 18 straight pars and despite my very best efforts to make a few birdies I missed every one of them. Putts I normally hole were lipping out, horshoeing out or staying on the lip! All-in-all I missed 11 birdie chances I'd normally make (I wouldn't make then all normally but at least 4 or 5 of them).

I have never made 18 pars before and wondered if any of you had done anything similar? I only know of Nick Faldo's 18 pars to win the Open.

Weird indeed. But Graham, I'd be delighted with a round like that!

I scrambled to a par-birdie-par start to my round today and then it all went downhill from there. I think too many late nights over the weekend finally caught up with me. I managed to drive a short Par 4 and then 3 putt, hit a lovely 4-iron tee shot to 5ft on the next hole and 3 putt again (the birdie putt lipped out and then disappeared down the slope)

This last season was my first bogey-free round. 17 pars and 1 birdie. I almost wanted to miss the birdie as it came on the 18th hole. There were 4 sand saves, and 3 putts over 30 ft. It was wierd indeed.

It was wierd, now that its been several hours since I finished, its kind of wierd being happy that I made 18 straight pars and the "accomplishment" of a rare feat. It could have been a seiorusly deep round, I had 11 reasonable birdie chances.

I hit my tee shot on the first (a par 3) to 6ft. Missed it left edge. Then I thought ok, we'll birdie the next. I hit my SW to 10ft and it shaved the right edge. Ok, maybe the next ... My pitch over the bunker onto the par 5 stopped about 6 feet passed. It lipped out. Okay ... let's par the next (stroke 1 par 4) and birdie the par 5 after that.

On the par 5 my LW pitched 12feet passed and spun back to about 8ft. I left it on the lip!
PW to the next par 4 pin high left about 9feet, spun out of the hole.
6-iron to the next, a par 3 was on the back fringe about 10feet. Ran passed the left lip.
9-iron to the next green was 12 feet and I left it hanging on the lip, right on line.

It went that way the entire round. Eventually, I got tired of telling myself "ok, the next one is a birdie".

I didn't give up, ever. Even on the 18th, a par 5 I hit my SW approach 6 feet passed the hole and the damn thing shaved passed the right edge.

18 straight pars! A very wierd round and quite feat, I think. I'm not sure what the odds of it happening are.

          Re: 18 Pars

I played a round a couple of years ago that started with 12 straight pars, then I birdied the 13th and had to walk in through lack of light!!!

Funny you should mention it happening today because i went

          Bogey
          Birdie
          Par
          Par
          Birdie
          Par
          Bogey
          Par
          Par

For a level par front nine and then had three pars and a bogey the next 4 (again late start so only got to 13, my course the 13th is about 50 yards from the clubhouse cos its a loop with the clubhouse closer to the back nine than the front)

I remember the 12 par start well, I was standing on the 9th with a 3 footer for par and I swear my hands were shaking with the pressure!!!! It was odd because I had vroken par on the front nine before so it wasnt really anything special. It just goes to show you how hard it is to construct a 'perfect' round of 18 pars. The closest I have ever come to the same feeling is when I had a 2 footer on 18 for a career low 68 about a year ago.

Congrats on a rare achievement Graham,

          D.

            Re: 18 Pars

I'm expecting in the near future when I can tell you guys I went around in par. The closes I came to par was a 12 over par round, it was a par 70, I also went 12 over at Karan Downs wich is a par 66. I have also gone 12 over at Gailes which is a par 73.

I recon 18 straight pars would be hard to do. Like I was a scratch tenpin bowler when I used to play, and to get an all spare game was very rare. I did it once in my whole time I was bowling.

Looks like I need to make a topic entitled "18 Bogies"

BDR the way some of us play it should be 18 double bogeys.

I was once 5 under after 5 holes, then my brain almost jumped out of my head I ended up shooting 1 over par by the end of the day. Nice round Graham, I have had similar showing's with the putter, but have never accomplished all pars even when I have shot under par there has always been a few bogeys or a double. Nice Work!!

I saw a sig on FGI that reads:

"I started out the round +1 after 3, then got back on track and carded a nifty 94"
