  • Kiwi & I had our game together today

It was good getting to have a round of golf with someone that I have meet on this website. He is a really friendly guy and has a very relaxed approach to the game of golf.

The bad news was I played a really bad round, and he can tell you guys how bad my putting and chipping really is.

The good news was I learnt a bit more about the short game, Him playing off +4 and me off +18 the main difference was he hit a few more greens in reg than me and his short game was so much better than mine.

I'm concentrating more on my short game at the moment. How many of us spend hours on the range banging buckets of balls off into space and never spend time practicing chipping, pitching and putting?

You're absolutely right when you say that a big difference between reasonable players and good players is the short game. After all at the end of the day a 2" putt is exactly the same as a 300 yard drive.

I think it's great that you guys made the effort to get together for a game.

I hope you have learned from each other during your game, your short game may be poor but the swing looks great, it only a matter of time.

This is the only place that people will help each other in golf, it's taboo at the range to help anyone, the pro gives you the evil eye for taking potential business away. (quite right too)

It was an enjoyable round of golf ,good company and just good fun. Two guys who had never meet and got along well. We didn't have any of those dreaded pulses where you feel someone should be saying something, anything to break this awkward silence.
We played at Mr Changes home course which is good and one I'd never played before. Some of the distances were hard to figure and alot of the holes had bunkers in front, that looked like they were on the edge of the green but when you got down there you had 10-15 metres landing area before the fringe.
We finished the last two holes in darkness and both lost some balls over these remaining holes.
This was my first game for six weeks and a fairly bad neck injury and seemed to have pulled up fairly well. Tomorrow will reveal more after it has cooled down.

Has anyone else caught up with another golfer from GTO?

Great to talk with people on the net share ideas etc but even better to catch up in person. We will do it again.

Re: Kiwi & I had our game together today

Some things, I learnt from playing a game with Kiwi,

Firstly, I need to learn how to putt and chip,

I also learnt to take more notice of how the wind will effect my ball, I usally only worried about it when it was heavy, where he took note of the wind on everyshot.

I need to be more carefull with my distances, I would either use to much club or to little,

I also need to take more notice of my aiming, On a couple of my shots that when wayward I notice that that's where I was aiming.

Last at all, I need to take more time to think about my shot, and to focus into a swing mode. When I took the video of my swing I made sure I swang from within myself not just up and swing like I do on the coarse.

Thanks Kiwi, even though you didn't try to teach me anything on the coarse I was watching you and how you thought and learnt more about where I was going wrong.

                  Your welcome Bruce

But I was teaching you, you just didn't notice. I usually think my way around a golf course but that day I spoke my thoughts out loud.

If you concerntrate and focus on your short game 30mtrs and closer you will drop 7 or 8 shots off your handicap.
It's surprising but the better and more comfortable you are with the short game the more greens you will hit in regulation because your not trying so hard, you know you will chip and one putt and save par anyway so that pressure has been lifted off your shoulders.

                  Good luck and practice hard.

                  Brian

Just one further point Bruce, the golf swing is over in under one and a half seconds. Concentrate on only one thing, We cannot think of many different parts of the swing in such a short time our brains just aren't quick enough.

The practice range is where we try to groove our swing or implement swing changes
