    Re: Callaway or Cleveland

Ricky, try all 3 inthe store and see which one looks best a t set up, which has a better sound and of course, which one gives you the best combination of accuracy and distance. They should have some sort of simulator which will help you with the last points.

Ricky - this is all personal preference. Make sure you get what's best for you.

As for my choice of those three listed I would have to go with the Launcher.

I dont mean to throw a spanner in the works here, but have you tried Cobra drivers? They are really good.

Also have a look at the Mizuno and the Taylor Made, for my money Taylor made are the daddies right now. They just feel really solid and you always think you have nailed it when you use them.
I had the Callaway BBII and wasnt impressed. The Cleveland is a great club though.

You will get a Taylor Made 540 or 580 for around 100 quid. And a Mizuno MP-001 for about 110. If you really fancy a Callaway they still havent managed to better the ERC II which you will get for 90 quid still.

Do what Gord says try before you buy and hit lots of shots with each one before you decide.

          D.

If we are bringing different brands into the mix, definitely try the Cobras. Also, try out the Taylor Made R5 - smaller head than the R7 but very similar test results. Seem to be coming out the favourite because the pricing is less than the R7 but they produce very similar shots. The R580s are sweet as well. One of my playing partners bought a R580 last fall and I tried it out on the range. I was carrying the ball over 300 yards on the range - just as far as my current driver was rolling up to.

How do these new TM drivers compare to the older 320 series?

I was comparing the average distance of the R580 XD to my old Callaway Hawk Eye. Surprisingly, my Hawk Eye out-performs my TM R300. The difference is not much on the average shot. I would upgrade to the 580XD, but I have yet to find a club that when I absolutely RIP at a ball that can out distance my Hawk Eye. It seems to have an extra gear that when I need that extra 20 or 30 yards I can unload it the distance is there. I have won 8 or 9 long drive competitions in charity tournament play with a few drives reaching about 370 yards! I love my Hawk Eye.

I have the launcher 460. Very very happy with it. When I bought it, I was thinking of going with the Titleist 983, but I went to a corporate day in the UK where all the brands were available to test. TM, Nike, Ping, Callaway and offcourse Cleveland and Titleist. I spent the whole day hitting balls and having the reps help me with fitting the right club. At the end, there was no question. It just had to be the Launcher!

Enjoy it, these days don't come around to often for most of us.
