  • Monty

    Well Guys,

I see Monty is on top form again this week, he recorded the lowest score of the day yesterday 64 and only two off the lead.

Will Monty ever win a major or is he just to late with the rise of so much talent.......????????????

    Ian.

    I think he might..........just

    Re: Monty

I hope so. He really is the nicest guy. Why we (the USA) gives him so much greef, I don't know. Maybe we fear him so we resort to playground antics. It seems to work on him getting him rattled so it continues. Shame.

      Re: Monty

Im afraid Monty has probably missed his chance. He might well luck his way into one but unless he climbs the rankings again he will have to go through qualifying for the Opens and wont get an invite to the Masters. I assume the USPGA doesnt run a qualifying for non USPGA members so he would need to be ranked higher for that.

He has played well recently and hopefully he will accumulate enough ranking points to get his exemptions back.

He just isnt a lucky player and to be fair lucky players win Majors. Look at Curtis, Hamilton, Lawrie, Micheel or Beem. No one could really claim that they were Major winning calibre Curtis and Beem have disappeared, Hamilton and Micheel may yet prove themselves top quality, Lawrie rode the crest of the wave for a couple of years but he is struggling again. They all had a great week at the right time and they got lucky at the right times. This has never happened to Monty, he has always been caught by the guys that are lucky. I would like anyone to try and argue, hand on heart, that they think Steve Elkington deserved a Major before Monty. I will give Tom Kite the benefit of the doubt because he had been knocking at the door for over a decade.

If I had a spare wish it would be that Monty got his Major, but unfortunately I don't. I will still be rooting for him though.

        Re: Monty

Um, this is a tough one. My heart says a definate yes because he's a great guy and having spent time with him I can tell you it burns that he's lost 3 majors but fractions. If he does, I think it will be the PGA where the golf courses tend to be a tad easier where the lesser ranked players have a chance.

My knowledge however, says no chance whatsoever unless he gets his game together and takes it 3 notches up. He's not in top 60 in the world, so that knocks him out of the Masters and not automatically qualified for the other majors either.

But if I had one wish I could give someone, it would be for Monty to win a major.
