    I think part of the problem is there is no industry standard re: stiff and regular, so what one company is calling stiff may be very stiff or or closer to regular. The other factor is shaft kick point - low, med and high. a high kick point should give a more boring shot and visa versa. You can go for a fitting - the only problem is the fitter can only fit you to how you are hitting that day. If your not hitting well, then won't tell you much. I agree with above that the best thing to to is go to a range and try the clubs. do it soon, becuase the colder it gets, it is hard to tell what is good for you.

      The kick point has very , very little to do with ball trajectory.
      Golf Smiths R&D dept performed tests with over 2000 shafts and found a max if 1 degree difference in ball flight between the highest and lowest kick points.

      I wouldnt let it influence my decision either way. Its hype.

        Not quite hype, Gree, but more useful in matching it up with a swing tempo and release point. It's still good to put a low kick shaft with a fast tempo/late release player, and a high kick with an early release player.

          ahhhhhhh!
          low kick point! high kick point? early, late release?
          seems we are counting a lot on someone to see all this and get it right. gees, no wonder there are so many slicers.

          just kidding.

          i did notice on the reg shaft when forcing myself to swing slow there were times when the the ball just sling shotted off the club face, made great solid sound, and went >300 yards. but the rest of the time it was a wrestling match to keep from slicing or pushing.

          the steel three wood on the other hand was or is consistance and goes 275 and has been known to go 300. but 95 percent of the time straight straight.

            ok, i traded in the reg shaft for a stiff shaft, will let you know how it works.
            also, what does it mean, when the gold guy at the shop says, very athletical, after seeing you swing a couple of times!!!

            is it a nice way to say you need a lot of work?
            or your hitting too hard?

                I'd be happy being accused of an athletic looking swing. A lot of guys are accused of a mechanical swing - so take that into consideration.

                  My son is hitting very long with a Ping G5 Regular Driver... LAtely he is having problems with a big hook wish I believe is the result of combining great head speed with the regular shaft...
                  It is true that a stiff shaft will resolve the problem ???

                      Hi,I would just like to reiterate what some have said, what is stiff with one company may be regular for another. I know there are Industry guidelines but they are just that, guidelines. They also have different kickpoints. All of this has a part to play when you, an individual, strikes that ball. this is why it is hard to do an online fitting for example. I have a regular wilson driver, a regular cleveland 5wood a stiff carnegie clark (it's an oz brand) 7 wood and stiff wilson irons. all these suit my swing well and I play a pretty competetive golf with them. So all this adds up to ..try them if they work for you buy them and don't worry about shoulds and should nots.Hope this helps.
