  • Cobra Comps 3 & 7

I thought that I should let you all in on a secret.......

I use the Cobra sz 3 & 7 woods.........On Wednesday I spend all day.....two clubs and the driving range trying out every three wood on the market with every available shaft............NOTHING came close to the Cobra clubs I have used for the past 12 months.

Up to this point I hadn't even looked at the Cobras Composites because they look almost replicas of the one I already have........How wrong.........I tried them, can't even remember why (frustration at not being suited to the lovely Ping woods I think..) the composites were even better than the ones I have.

Needless to say £200.00 with P/X I walked off...........Played last night, only 10 holes....light stopped play @ 1 over (graaaahhh) I hit them further and sweeter than my old ones.

If your in the market for some fairway woods....give these a try you might be suprised, even with the standard shaft.

    WOW

That's great! I aasume you only compared the woods against the other OEM clubs?

I too have hit almost every fairway wood on the market and the Ashton X-1 blows them all away - and it's only $50 US for the head.

I've got an SMT Solitaire 4.5 coming in... and looking at the Ashton X1 for comparison.

I am so impressed by the Ashton X-1 fairway woods that I am switching over the the Ashton drivers as well. Ashton is also in the process of designing a line of hybrids. I am not sure when they plan to release these, but I can only guess that they will be another amazing product.

Yea the Cobras are really sweet I know a couple of guys that swear by em.

I have an MP-001 4 wood and have to say its really really good. I have noticed, however that Snake eyes have brough out fairway woods that match my Viper Ti4 Driver...hmmmmmmm

Sonartec are getting a great name as well, any of you guys tried it?

Sonartec are okay. The best comparison I can make is to the Titleist 980's. Definitely great clubs, but I will take the Ashton ANY day.

              Re: Cobra Comps 3 & 7

I gotta say, I really like Ashtons' philosophy:

              From their FAQ:
Why only one head? Where's the variety?
Our view on this is simple. We've designed the best driver we possibly can and until we can make something better, we won't. We don't understand the practice of introducing multiple heads that all do the same basic thing. If you want to hit the ball longer and straighter than you ever have, you've come to the right place.

Are the X-1s comparable in performance to the other drivers on the market. If so, why dont more people use them?? They sure match up fairly nicely with price in mind

                  Re: Cobra Comps 3 & 7

The drivers and fairway woods have outperformed anything I have ever tested.

Why aren't they popular? Like most component companies, they spend their money producing clubs, not advertising. Also, they just started up not too long ago, so it takes a while for people to change to a brand new brand that doesn't have a lot of publicity.

                  Here's a review from equip2golf.com: http://equip2golf.com/reviews/fairwayframeset.html

The Ashton X-1 three wood from Ashton Golf receives high marks for forgiveness, distance, accuracy, feel, and looks. It may well be one of the best overall fairway woods on the market today. We feel that this club will especially appeal to low and mid handicap golfers although we think that smooth swinging mid handicap golfers will like the consistency found with this fairway wood.

The biggest influence so far is the amount of people using the X-1 driver in the Long Drive curcuit. Rock hicks made headlines with a 426 yard drive at the 2004 ReMax Long Drive Competition on the 2nd day, longest of the competition.

There also has been X-1D spotted in a couple tour players bags, but I can't remember where I read it or what tour it was (either Nationwide ot European Tour).

So, it is coming along for them. The reviews they are getting all over the web are all very positive and I am EXTREMELY happy with mine.

You could order them direct from Ashton.

If you go to their site http://www.ashtongolf.com/ and look under distributers, and then again select the distributers list, it will give you a listing of places to order. Once you go into a site, clubmaker-online for example, find the Ashton products on that company's site and many of them will build a club to your specs and will ship it to you.
