    Hmm Im pretty sure you cannot declare the original unplayable and then continue with the provo...
    Once you found the original the provo is out of play alltogether, you cant decide to bring it back into play because you dont like the way the original is setup.
    You are giving yourself two options, that dont happen in golf.
    Using your idea I could hit 2 shots to every par 3 to see if I can hole the second one, if I do I just declare the one in the bunker unplayable and walk off with a 3...
    I dont think so!

      Whoops ... you're right, of course. I was focusing on Rule 28, which states.

      If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under
      penalty of one stroke:
      a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the
      original ball was last played       (see Rule 20-5)
      ...
      That place being the tee, would effectively mean that the provisional ball would be just that shot.

      However, the provisional ball is off course abandoned if the original ball is not lost or OOB, according to 27-2c.

        Exactly. The caveat is that the PP has to keep looking. If the PP stops looking, then the inference is that they too figure the ball is lost. At that point, you carry on with the provo.

          Though you dont have to wait for them to stop, you can just walk up and play your provo, however if it is your partners shot first and its a match for example they can make you replay your 2nd provo shot if you play out of turn.
          Nows its just getting messy as in a match they are very likely to look for your ball if it went somewhere nasty, up to you to declare it lost on the Tee I reckon.
