Re: How good can you get?

    Fairways hit 70%
    Greens in Reg: 35%
    Putts: < 34
    Birdies: 15%

At the moment I'm shooting around 90.
I'd like to shoot an 85 this year!!
it's a big change but i'm working really hard.

Get into and stay in single figures.

Get rid of this bloody hook.

Re: How good can you get?

        Shoot within my 18 handicap on a regular basis by;

holing more putts (just finished Dr. Bob Rotella's book on putting and seeing some results).

chipping with more confidence to attack the flag (slow progress there - still blading quite a few)

try to achieve 90%+ consistency on the fairway - currently getting too much behind the ball on 1 out of 5 4/5 irons on fairways.

          1. Shoot under 40. Previous best 41.
          2. Consistently shoot 40-42 during the summer.
          3. Stop slicing on hole 6 (this hole has a jinx on me)

Makes you wonder with the 60's thrown around this past weekend on tour. But yes, we're talking 9 holes.

Re: How good can you get?

My goal for this "season" is an easy one: I want to enjoy playing golf more than I have been recently.

I considered going back to playing on tour but to hell with it! Having to make cuts, having to play for a score rather than playing to enjoy the game, being obsessed with score each and every round ... been there and done that.

This year I want to relax, play a lot more golf wth friends who don't expect me to teach while we play and enjoy the time whether I score 65 or 75.
I'm going to score my golf on enjoyment rather than par! Sounds like fun more than it does work.

Re: How good can you get?

My goal is simply to try and get back onto a golf course sometime this year. Don't care if I play good or bad as long as I can play.

Re: How good can you get?

                    Great thread!

I'm pretty new to the game (picked up a club in december last year for the first time) and I've dropped 25 shots or so since then. Looking to break 100 for the first time soon - got a way to go but if I get a bit more consistency in my driving it will make a huge difference

                      my goals:

                      1) break into the 80's I shoot mid to high 90's now with my best round being a 91

                      2) try not to shoot 50 + on the front nine. (always seem to get low 40's in the back no matter the course, I just gotta find a better warm up/actually warm up)

                      3) don't get left in the dust by my friend (he only started last year and is shooting low 90's as well) but this is not really a true goal more of a motivational tool (we help each other a lot on the course..ie i caddy for him and vice versa...he helps me a lot on club selection. and he is ussually right

MY GOD ... YOU GUYS ARE FRICKIN PRO'S...............

I am basically starting over, new clubs, good clubs instead of clones. But so far I am shooting 120 ... OUCH!!!!!!!

But here's a question for you pros....
I got fitted for Ping G2 irons, the fitter said that I should be using a "2 degree up" club set. So far I have found that I am consistently hitting my irons to the right. Could this be the reason? MY GOALS...
Get back down to at least my 100's, fix iron swing, fix drives. and of course get on the course more.

                          play in comp every week
hit my first par round by the end of the year.

Just realized I achieved all three. Shot a 38 in November. 40-42 was a common occurence throughout the summer and I conquered hole 6 (70% of the time). I guess its time to set new goals. All thanks to the Refiner.

Didn't happen. I spent zero time practicing short game this year, and as a result, couldn't get up and down. (But once I got on, 3 putts were rare).

Changing to a 2PS at the beginning of the year, then to a 1PS later in the summer made this one tough. But I've got high expectations for my 'winter work', and next year.

This one may be more possible, due to a) finding a reliable babysitter, and b) having my wife wanting to pick up golf.

                              SO:

                              For next year:

I want to refine my swing.

I want to learn to play smart (read: course management).

I want to have a regular game (since my home course is 9 holes, I want to play a minimum of 27 holes/week - including one 9 hole round, and an 18 hole game. As well as getting out to practice with my wife once a week, rather than chewing up my lawn.

Re: How good can you get?

I need to fix my driver swing. I am very happy with the progress I made with my irons and putter towards the end of this season. If I could get it in the fairway or first cut I was hitting 60-70% of greens. Finally settled on a putting grip and I'm a pendulem.

I've read Ben Hogan's 5 lessons and it helped alot. But I'm going to see the local pro near me and have him work on my driver exculsively. Broke 100 early in July and never looked back. I usually shoot in the low to mid 90's but I did shoot an incredible 84 at the end of September. Also won a closest to the pin at a local tourney.

                                How good can I get???

I want to get to an 8 so I can play in the Mid Amatuers.

Hope everyone has a great golf year in 2006!

                                Dan
