    Golf instructional videos

    I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight on golf instructional videos? Do these work well? What are the best ones to look at? I heard that The Ultimate Golf Learning Experience on DVD was good, but just wondering if you guys think these are worth the money. I have only been golfing for just over a year, and I could use some instruction on my game. I'm still shooting mid to high nineties, though I do scratch the 80's on very few occasions when I can avoid my driver.

    Yeah, I know a fair amount about golf videos. I have a library of them and I use them in my teaching sometimes but for the last 3 months I have been working with an American production company on producing a set of instructional DVD's which will take us another 8 or 9 months to finish.

    Like golf books and golf mags, the instruction works for some and not for others - it all depends. In my experience a lot depends on the type of instruction you need and the manner in which you learn best. Some people learn by copying, some by following instructions while others prefer to 'feel' the correct action ... You can't 'feel' the action from watching a video unless you are reasonably good at learning by copying at the same time.

    It also depends on the skills you are wanting to learn. If you want to the learn golf basics an 'overall' video is what you are looking for. If you want to solve problems then a 'faults & fixes' is your best. Obviously if you want to learn short-game Dave Pelz or Stan Utley are your men. So, pick the content according to what you want to learn.

    But - in general I'd say they do work provided the content is good.

    If you want an 'overall' instruction DVD you can't go wrong with: David Leadbetter, The Ultimate Golf Learning Experience, DVDs or videos by Jim McLean.

    Also, just a thought ... consider joining the Golf Channel.com and use their on-line video vault or golfspan.com for the same thing if you just want periodic fault/fixes/improvement sections. I use them quite a bit myself to broaden my knowledge.

      I am more of a person to person learner out on the course, so they dont werk well for me?

        I'm a fan of the video vault at golfchannel.com, but nothing quite solidifies my swing as a visit to TC (my local CPGA pro). I've got a MiniDV video camera that I use to tape my swing (so I can see what a good swing looks like - then what my swing looks like), and I'll often compare my swing to some of the vault swings.

          the golfchannel.com video vault seems pretty popular. do you guys think this is worth the money? Do they have a way to record or save the videos?
