  • Broke 90 for the first time

My wife & 3-year-old were away visting friends this weekend. I played 36 Saturday, 36 Sunday and 18 this morning before work (my hands are a bit sore today). (is that some sort of record: 90 holes in 70 hours? I coulda gotten another 18 in (total of 54) on Saturday if I'd started earlier). Feel somewhat masochistic, somewhat elated. I need to send the family away more often

Of the five rounds, Sunday morning I started out with a 39 on the front (including 6-7-8 birdie-birdie-birdie) ... then fell apart. 39/55 = 94. Still, not a horrible score for me.

This morning, however, all was well. Teed off at sunrise, alone. Played 18 in 2:46. 45/43 = 88. Previous low was 92. Yea, I know, it's not 79 but I feel real good anyhow.

It's amazing how easy it is to score well (er, 90ish) by just putting the drives in the fairways - even with a poor approach it's not too tough to bogie.

    Adam,

    Well done,

It just goes to show that if you spend a little time on your own to work out that it quite a simple game if you just keep it reasonably straight off the tee.

Also it doesn't matter if you miss the green, up and down in 2 or 3 isn't bad either.

    Ian.

Congratulations! I am almost there... shot a 104 today, but only because I am still taking unnecessary risks. Should have punched it out a couple of times instead of going over the trees! My lowest so far is a 92, and I need to put the driver away and use long irons on the short par 4's and even some of the Par 5's! Its amazing how sometimes I am pitching in 3 on a par 5 just because it hit it decent and straight with a couple of nice 3 iron shots instead of an errant driver off the tee! Kenny Perry is my new hero, loved the way he hit those irons at the Colonial!

        Hi Adam,

Don't play down your achievement, statistically 50% of golfers never break 100 so shooting 88 is a good score. I think Tiger Woods said that golf is a game of mistakes so you're spot on in saying that getting the drive in the fairway and the ball on the green is the key to good scoring. It doesn't have to be spectacular, just keeping those big numbers off the card makes an awful lot of difference.

          Hey Adam,
I'm willing to bet if you spend less time messing around with the driver on the range and more time on the chipping / putting areas at your local club you'll be shooting in the low 80's by summer's end!

My goal last summer wasn't really to break 90 but to shoot under 40 on a single 9 holes, I'm very surprised you've done it already. A year later my new goal is to break 31 which is currently my lowest 9 hole score, about a month ago I shot a 2 over par 72 with a 31(eagle fly in from 160 out, 1 bog, 4 birds)/41(just wanted to cry).

I was in your same shoes last summer and here I am now trying to break par and become a scratch golfer before summer's end! Congrats and keep up the good work!!!
