  • Competition wins!!

It is my second year at Queensbury GC. I have entered 6 tournaments, won 5 and came second in 1. My name has started to go up in the clubhouse and i'm loving it.

I wanna start entering regional and national tournaments but don't know how to go about it. Any ideas would be most grateful.

    Re: Competition wins!!

Do you hold a handicap? Are you playing to scratch or do your current tournaments add in your index? Are they 18, 36, 54 or 72+ hole tournaments? Are you winning all these tournaments on 1 course or several different courses? If only 1 course try to enter different tournaments other than your local course which you know like the back of your hand. Tournaments are a lot harder if you go to course you know nothing about a week prior to and tee off on the following Thursday. I know that here in the US there are mini-tours that you can pay to enter like the Hooters(http://www.ngahooterstour.com), Grey Goose, Nike/Buy.com ... and the list goes on, sorry I don't know much about mini-tours or the SSS handicap system in Europe.

I hold a handicap of 10 so the wins aren't anything major. Thanks for the insight about the tournaments i think that would be better for experience if i enter many other tournaments to see how miserably i fail

What are you playing off and how is your competition results if you don't mind me asking?

Yes 15 is correct. Congratulations on your wins especially the County Championship, that is quite a success. Don't worry about maybe not being noticed as much yet because it is good to come down in level of play and sneak up on the others quickly.

I am quite the same really, i started the year on 17 and was cast to the back, it is coming down quite drastically and i feel myself that i am playing to 6/7 now but i need a couple more cards in to get pulled.

I hope your handicap drops a vast amount as i am sure it will and i hope you get to acheive what you are hoping to acheive.

Do you have any aims and objectives for this year, if so i would be interested in hearing them if you don't mind me asking.

''We probably have the right handicaps for us but i know alot of juniors who have handicaps like 4 and 3 and 6 and stuff and play to thier handicap like once every 2 months or something.''

Rick, handicaps get low because they play consistently well and have played under their original handicap. You can't just change a handicap to a low one, if you then play badly.. it will go up. The people in the county champs will be more likely to shoot their handicap than people above 10.

I disagree that people should compete against low handicaps with high handicaps. They should only compete together a few times a year. In our county champs you have to have a handicap of less than 5 otherwise one of the handicappers could have a 'fluke' day and shoot 5 or more under their handicap.

Yes that is a good observation i didn't pick that up. That is absolutely true! I got pulled to 20 a while ago and couldn't cope and then soon rose again to 22.

I think Rick, you miss understand the point of a handicap. It is to try and level out players so that a 28 handicapper can play a 4 handicapper.

If you don't play to your handicap, then it isn't the right handicap for you!
