  • The Comp Results are in!

I got out to the course at about 7:15, about a half hour before my tee time. Spent 15 putting and chipping, then went to get a small bucket of balls. I work my way up to a driver, and on the last ball, the shaft cracks, the epoxy busts, and the head goes flying 50 yards down range. So there i am, driverless. Hampered of my advantage over others. I play the course with 3W off the tee, still getting out 250-260. I start out spinning the ball well, and +2 after 6. Then it goes downhill. I start trying to spin the ball and chunk 5-6 pitches, one into a hazard. I end up with a pretty poor 85. Nonetheless, i tie for third. I playoff and chunck another wedge, and bogey to lose.

I have talked to a few product testers and the consencus is the Accuflex Evolution is better than the Aldila NV.....

Isn't the Evolution a nano-composite driver? Probably why it is considered better. It will cost me over $100 to get it reshafted with that shaft, and the G2 came with the NV for $160 new, so i am counting my blessings right now.

I wouldn't switch the NV out, but if anyone is looking to reshaft a wood, the Evolution may be something for people to consider...

What about the Grafalloy Nano-Composite? What are the reviews on that?

That should have been "wouldn't" - I changed it above.....

Honestly, I haven't heard anything yet about either. Although, I haven't talked to my contacts for a few months either. The Grafalloy appears to be right there with the Accuflex. As for the UST, I have never been a fan of their products. It doesn't seem to be any different than the endless amounts of items claiming low torque. Until I see or hear an unbiased report, I am not sold.

UST is claiming tour wins with the v2, which as far as I am concerned, tour wins mean nothing - if Tiger is on his game he could probably with with hickory shafts, so what the tour guys are using generally comes down to dollars, not performance. There probably is no noticable difference though between any of these shafts mentioned, so go with the one with the weight and flex point that matches your swing. Once you have that, pick the best looking one to you..... it really won't matter as long as you feel confident with it attached to your club head.

allegedly this guy has matched this shaft with my swing.
