Solid hits, high launch, easy to use from semi-rough and in fairway bunkers due to the wide sole.
The short irons didn't feel too special to me. No apparent difference from my Wilson Deep Red.

Right on - love the Wilson deep reds
Ping g5 long irons sure feel great though...

Re: any thoughts on Ping g5 irons?
Well I have been golfing my ping eye 2 irons since I bought them new. I have always loved these clubs--they hit solid golf shots, create a decent spin on the ball, and where always easy to get up. Having said that, I always felt that I hit them too high and would have liked a lower penetrating golf shot on my mid irons.
I have been having guys on the course hitting smaller irons on the PAR 3's so I thought that I would see if the iron technology had changed radically like it did with the titanium drivers.
I went to our local driving range pro shop, got professionally fitted on a Callaway launch monitor--which I thought was just too cool. I want one. Any way, I hit all the major brands. I played around with getting more of a "players" iron, so I tried things like the TaylorMade RAC LT, and some Mizuno's. I hit them well, but if I hit them thin or off the toe, I actually felt pain in my wrists! I got the lower ball flight, but.... Decided in short that Players irons were not for me. Went back to the game improvement irons, ran through them all including a few that were way out of my price range--but secretly if they awesome I would have bought them--just thought that they were too "blue suit" for me.
Turned out to my surprise that the PING G5 iron was the club that I bought. I hit the steel shaft as well as the graphite shaft and went for the stiff graphite. I swing my driver at 108MPH, and my 6 iron at 91MPH. I loved the graphite feel as well as the extremly light feeling of the club. It felt like players iron in my backswing light and quick, but butterry smooth impact very respectable ball spin and about 1-2 degrees off of 15 degrees launch angle. I picked up one club length, so know I don't need to hide my iron before I hit on the tee box...Hope that helps.
