I think Wie should learn how to win amateur events, before turning pro. Wie is a good golfer, I'll give her that - but she has no idea how to win.

Too much Wie hype... Not enough Wie wins.

I agree with Low Post. She needs to learn to win amatuer events before turning pro.

Also, she's got to stop goofing around with the PGA tour sponsorships. If she actualy proves she's got game for the LPGA in the next couple of years, then try some PGA events.

            Re: Michelle wie

Turning Pro has nothing to do about whether or not she will "win" any tournament, mens or ladies. It's all about the millions she will get from Nike. There is no guarantee in life that if she waited until she was 18 or 21 after college that she would not have a physical disability/accident that would preclude her from playing golf. How about if she loses her swing, example David Duval. Even something coming from her young mouth that hits the press as a "racial" slur would cost her millions. How about a headline "Wie arrested for drunk driving". A bird in the hand is more valuable than two in the bush.

It's time for her to get on the endorsement gravy train.

The great thing about golf is that all the sponsorship, hype, money, etc. doesn't matter once you get to the first tee. The lowest score wins. Its the great equalizer. If she can handle it, great. If not, someone will take her place.

Someone's got our place right now! Work harder!

                don't worry ricky!!!

I totally disagree with elefsis. the great thing about golf is you can play it till your old and grey and still compete.

The final of the HSBC matchplay championship was played between Paul McGinley and Michael Campbell who turned pro at 25 and 24 respectively. paul McGinley didn't take golf serious till he was 18 when an injury stopped his dream of being a pro footballer.

Ian poulter turned pro at 18 off of a handicap of 4 and look at him now!!He was told he wouldn't make it a tour pro and look at him now.

Work hard and stay focused, I recently heard of a guy who couldn't break 90, and in just a year through hard work, focus and determination broke par.

Even though im nearly 20 and play off 15, I still believe I could 1 day turn pro. I give myself till I graduate University in 4 years (6 year course) to get down to below par handicap and everyone I speak to believes I should be off about 5 at the moment. I just let my mental side get the better of me.

Ricky don't listen to pessimists as they never win, while optimists like you and me never lose!!!!

                prove elefsis wrong

                  Re: Michelle wie

Wow Elefsis, what a dream buster. It's amazing how quickly we try to get others to be average just so we can feel good about ourselves. Close your ears to nah sayers like this Ricky. There were a lot of people, prior to the latter 1940's, who would have bet a million dollars that Ben Hogan would never be anything better than an average tour pro. Keep hope alive!

                    Re: Michelle wie

Ricky, dont rise to the bait, Elfesis you are out of order.

I also notice that you havent mentioned if you won any of the comps you entered, you beat a few good players in match play but thats easy done if they play badly and you play well. I have seen guys off scratch get beat off 8 handicappers just cos they had an off day. Besides Ricky cant play in half of that stuff cos he isnt old enough or low enough. And winning things nett does mean something, since you mention it. It doesnt matter how many shots you get you still have to shoot a better score than the field. The pressure is still the same.

Good luck to Ricky and if you need a caddy on tour........

                    D.

I thought this thread was about Michelle Wie???? lol Ricky, just keep practicing and you will achieve any goal you desire. Your only 15, relax! Don't let the bitter old man get under your skin.

As for the next great woman golfer. I'll cast my lot with he womans US Amateur champ, Morgan Pressel. That girl throws darts at the green!! She threw down some of the greatest iron shots I have ever seen in winning the coveted title.

                          Re: Michelle wie

First of all, I'll stick to the topic. Michelle Wie is already a great player and we can only guess how well she is going to do in the future. I dont think we can say that she has to follow the route of Tiger by winning all the amatuer events first...etc. Everyone is different. She is only 15 and yet she can outplay everyone here.

Now, to what this topic should have been "Rickyharris VS Elefsis"...

Ricky, keep trying. Its always good to have dreams and sometimes I wish I had that kind of passion when I was younger and had a go at turning pro. The other thing that you can do as well is work on how you will come across to other people. This way, when you do turn pro and become famous, you have the personality to go with it.

Elefsis, I cant believe you are an old man arguing with a 15 year old. Get a life. I dont care how good you were at golf or how long of history you have with golf but this is a website for people from ALL level of golf to share their opinion and ideas. Sure some hints, tips arent exactly great but what else would you get on the golf course anyway? Where are your great advise?

Thats all from me for this thread.

I agree that youthful keenness should be encouraged, however, being keen and ambitious should not mean good manners should be discarded.I am going to anticipate your possible reply ,no , I am not some old fart dwelling in the past!I have always encouraged junior members at my club, supplying them with clubs, and in some instances money. Most are grateful and respond accordingly. It is unfortunate but true there are some small numbers of pros.on American and European tours best described as obnoxiousI wish Rick the best of luck and hope he does realise his dream, but advise him to be a little less arrogant.

My last word concerning this thread is its one thing to tell/suggest someone to work harder in order to achieve their dream. However, its a big difference to say to someone, you can't achieve your dream so settle for something less. The nah sayers told the then Cassius Clay, you can't beat Sonny Listen, don't even try. The nah sayers told Muhammad Ali, George Foreman will destroy you, don't go in the ring with him. The nah sayers told the Williams sisters, you will never make the pros, give up tennis. It goes on and on but if you don't give up on your dream, who's to say what is possible.
