  • Ernie Els's swing

I keep hearing Els mentioned as a model of the one-plane swing. But I have his book at home, "How to Build a Classic Golf Swing." It's loaded with stop-action photos of all phases of his swing. It appears to me that in that book his swing is a "classic" two-plane. Again and again the photos show that his swing plane is more vertical than his shoulder plane. And at the top of his backswing his club is no more than an inch or so aft of his rear end.

The book was published in 1999. Maybe he changed his swing since then?

    Ubizmo,

Not sure about the book, but I do know that Ernie and Goosen have very unconventional swings in that they are two plane swings but opposite to conventional teaching methods.

I'll explain, Both players take the club back slightly on the inside (very bad) and return to the ball on higher plane than the backswing.

Although this is only very slight it is opposite to what we are all taught.

Have a look at Ernies takeaway.
