  • Anybody ssssssssstretch??

I got that Roger Frederick's stretching program a while back, and a few things: a) I think it's excellent, and that if you were really dilligent about it it would reap huge benefits for you. On the other hand, it does take 20-30 minutes a day, and I work a LOT, unfortunately, so I don't have as much time to devote to it as I'd like.

That being said, I've really focused on just taking a few of them and really sticking to them. My chiropractor said my quads, hammies and hip flexors were way tight, so I've been stretching them a la Roger's program.

I can't tell you how good it feels when you get done with a bit of stretching, it's almost as good as having a massage. Anyway, now that I've integrated these leg stretches into my day, I'm going to figure out a few others to concentrate on as well.

I think stretching will make a huge difference in my game, and was wondering if anyone else feels the same.

    I am 6 foot 6 inches.
Without stretching every or everyother day... I would prolly die. Stretching regulary has contributed to my flexablity and TORQUE in my swing. Stretching before and during a practice session to target individual muscles I want to focus on works Very well... YOu get that little tingle then take a swing, you can zone right in on that muscle group and tweak accourdingly.

Stretching?! We don't need no stinkin' stretching!

      I'm a trunk-slammer-type of golfer.

Probably because there's no decent practice/warmup facility at my home course (or in my home town).

I'll do a couple of token stretches, but nothing serious. (I'm fairly certain I'll pay for this later on).

I always, always stretch. Following the exact same routine before each round. I also get at least 10min. of putting practice.

          Swing Muscles.

The golf swing uses many muscle groups, and the ones that are best to train are as follows.

          1. Deltoids (Shoulders)
          2. Triceps
          3. Biceps
          4. Extensor Carpi - radialis longus (forearm - top)
          5. Extensor Carpi - radialis brevis (forarm - bottom)
          6. Trapezius (back)
          7. Latissimus dorsi (back)
          8. Hamstrings (back of leg)
          9. Rectus abdominis
          10. Internal/External oblique

These are but a few of the best muscles to train for golf. Make sure you consult a personal trainer to show you the correct exercises to train these muscles. We are currently in the process of putting together a weight training and fitness section with the help of qualified fitness experts

Good luck and enjoy your exercise.

          Ian.

Actually, I try to stretch every day, morning and night, and whenever I can in between (in the stairwell at work ).

And yes, Greg, those do count. Very good for the drinkus beerus muscles (an addition to the list given above); these are extremely useful not only in golf, but in life as well. Just look at the Pope!
