  • Iron shanking

Is there any general cure for not shanking your middle to short irons of the tee. There is a small par 3 over a lake at the course i play at and the last 3 times ive played it ive shanked it onto the wrong fairway or gone straight over the back!
    Any help appreciated

Relax, shorter backswing, and don't start the downswing with the hands try a hip bump toward the target see if that helps

Dan S - there are quite a few causes of shanking - but the very first area to check on is your posture and how far or close you are from the ball. This will affect your swing and balance. I like Butch Harmons tip for getting correct posture (will be on his website). Basically it's get into your posture and take your bottom hand off the club - its should hang directly opposite where you were gripping with it for correct posture. If it hangs beyond the grip, away from your body - you are too close to the ball. If it hangs nearer your body than the grip your are too far away. As i said his website explains it better than i can

      good luck

I try lining up more at the toe and sometimes that compensates.
