  • Hnadicaps & Holidays

I’m thinking of taking a short break (Portugal or Spain probably) and I gather that handicap certificates are required pretty much everywhere.

Unfortunately, not being a member of a club, I don’t have a CONGU (UK) handicap.

Has anyone got first hand experience of any of the handicap services you can find on the web? Could you recommend them? Were the certificates accepted? Etc.Etc.

This will be the first time we've done this so any general advice would be appreciated as well.

I had to do this once so I joined Todays Golfer society - just sent them three cards and they sent back certificate (after taking some money of course!).

I’ve played lots of golf in Spain, Portugal and Scotland, most courses have specified the need for handicap certs when the bookings were made.
But, I’ve only ever had to produce once at The Old Course, St Andrews.
Even then 3 players in our group had homemade certificates!

        Go prepared.

lol i like the idea of forging a certificate on my PC.

Now I just need to borrow a real one from some one unsuspecting!

Things you should know before forging your certs.

Check out a real cert from a club your about to copy as some clubs are now changing certs to include tracer inks. These inks are unvisable unless UV light is shone on to it. They are askiing the printers to print either a logo of the club or its name across the paper that they will use for certs.

You may be wondering how I know of this but its because I work within the paper industry and I have come across a paper sample from a paper maker up in scotland.

            Quite intresting I must admit

            Cheers

I played in Marbella last November and didn't have to product a card. I'd take a backup of a forged one anyway. I noticed my handicap certificate is printed from software called HandicapMaster. I think you can get a demo of this from the Web. should help you make a realistic look certificate.

              Good Luck

                Thanks Darren,

Found the site, downloaded the software and printed off a test certificate - so at least I have a fall back now in case I'm too disorganised to get a real one. btw the certificate comes out formatted for A4, is that normal?

Another btw - i got a powerball this weekend, if I ever wrest it back from my son (last seen thrashing away to a 10 figure score) I'll let you know the results.

No problem. My Certificate is A4. Don't know if this is standard or not. Good luck with the powerball. Let me know when you've got the thing going +11500 RPM.
