Watched his competitors melt away in awe of the man. He comes out for his first tournament of the year, displays some rust from his 3 month lay-off, but wins the Buick. He still strikes fear into the heart of his competition. They dissolved like warm butter in the play off. He wins with routine pars. He is the MAN.

Though Els did have a couple of playoffs last year (Though not a PGA event) with Tiger that ended in ties (Presidents Cup and some Flo. Club challenge).Comment

If a Brit might intrude on (I think) a largely US thread, what's the explanation for Tiger's Ryder cup record? Fair enough in the singles but - for someone of his class - pretty woefall when with a partner.
Does the singlemindeness he shows in all his golf (and especially in play off) make it more difficult to play in a team?
Of course I suppose its easier to play in a winning team

Woods prefers Presidents Cup to Ryder Cup
SHANGHAI (AP) — Tiger Woods prefers the Presidents Cup to the Ryder Cup, insisting there is better camaraderie and more sportsmanship.
Europe has beaten the United States in seven of the last 10 Ryder Cups, with the 2006 matches set for Sept. 22-24 in Ireland. The Presidents Cup pits the United States against an international team of players from outside Europe.
When asked if the Presidents Cup is more fun, Woods said, "without a doubt."
"We're all good friends and you see more concessions and more sportsmanship — more good sportsmanship," he said Saturday. "And the way it's supposed to be played rather than the Ryder Cup — how it used to be played and how it is starting to get back to."
Woods is competing at the HSBC Champions tournament and was one stroke behind leader David Howell of England entering the final round. He said the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup began with the same concept but evolved differently.
"Unfortunately, the Ryder Cup got a little sidetracked," he said, declining to mention specific instances of poor sportsmanship.
"How about gamesmanship?" Woods said.
Europe won the Ryder Cup in 2004 in Michigan by its largest margin ever, 18½-9½. The United States won the Presidents Cup two months ago, 18½-15½, when Chris DiMarco made a 15-foot birdie putt in the final match.Comment

It has surprised me that Tiger's record is less than brilliant in Ryder Cups, and no surprise that he prefers the President's cup, where he has been on the winning team. What is obvious, is the more relaxed and friendly atmosphere within the Europe team, and a real go for it attitude in recent years. Witness 2002, and Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia, both driving the green at short par 4 water hole at the Belfry. Tiger Woods and his partner responded by laying up with seven irons, in the hope of chipping close and making birdie, which they failed to do.
It may be that the partnership of Jim Furyk and Tiger will work at the K Club this time round. If it does, then the whole American team may be galvanised into action.
We in Britain will be relying on Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie to again lay a foundation to build on.
Whatever happens, the question of money (or in this case the lack of it), being a reason for the event being less important, does not seem valid. These guys have more than enough riches - they are playing for national pride and honour, and that should still mean something.Comment

I remember Tiger in one press conference being asked about his ryder cup record and motivation etc
He asked the press how many majors had jack won - they all answered 18.
Tiger then asked what is jacks Ryder cup record - everyone was silent! Tiger gave a smile.
Obviously this was hinting that he is not that bothered about the cup.
