  • Hybrids for seniors?

    Question:

I want tyo buy a full set of hybrids, senior flex, for my father, 3-PW. He is 82 tears old and swings very short and hadr and seems to take a divot alot with his irons because he hits very far behind the ball - oftne hitting the ball on the ground. I think they will be great for him, but I read somewhere that hhybrids are good if you don't take a divot with your middle irons.

    What do you think?

    Thanks - TB

I think it's a great idea - the extra 'sole width' of a hybrid makes it tough to take a divot with. A great tool for 'sweepers' (like me).

I know Wishon has come out with a hybrid set of irons - the 785HF's.

The rumour mill seems to think that it won't be long until the educated consumer has hybrids in their bag down to the 9 iron, then their preferred wedge shape after that (at that point, loft removes a ton of the sidespin misses).

I'm contemplating a set for myself.

My father is not a sweeper though, he is a digger, that's why I'm not sure. Confidence makes a set now for $169, you can find it on e-bay - $15 shipping.

It may not hurt to buy him a hybrid, and see how he does with it.

He may just need wide-sole irons.
