  • Tiger Woods key Statistic

Tiger's just finished his 64, 8 under - no dropped shots, 8 birdies. He hit almost 80% of fairways (above 90% until the last 2 holes), it just shows what he could do if he gets his ball in the fairway more often He didn't even birdie 2 of the par 5's which he could of/should have done to make it 62!!!

Is the old tiger close to reappearing!!! If the matchplay had been a strokeplay event he would have been way ahead and he's won the 2 other events he was in!! (bar the one he had flu in).

I sure would not bet against him at Augusta.

Nope, the old Tiger is gone, the knee injury forced a change in the swing and he will never get the old power back. His driving is stupidly bad now by his old standards. He seems to have this thing about being the biggest hitter out there, if he throttled back on his driver and sacrificed 20 yards for accuracy he would be utterly awesome (instead of moderately awesome) and probably a shoe-in for the US Open and USPGA every year. There will come a time (and unfortunately very likely it will come soon) when he stops holing 10 footers for par and loses the ability to hit shots from the OB line at the pin. When that day comes he will have to start hitting fairways more regularly.

I reckon he has another 5-7 years to win 9 majors before his body starts giving him grumbles. Nicklaus' record that was under such threat when he won the Tiger slam looks a little safer every year since. Hopefully for him, he can continue from last year and bag 2 a season until the record is his.

I think his key statistic is that in 2006 he has won all 3 tournaments that he has played in and finished. How many pros over the years that would give their soul to the devil to win 3 tournaments in a career, let alone 3 in a row? He has won the Buick, the Dubai and now the Doral. He wd from the Nissan with the flu. Where are all the contendors/pretenders that are going to knock him off his peg?

Mizunoman - i tend to agree with you but what annoys me more than anything is how uncompetitive all the other best players in the world are right now. Tiger is winning but not really playing that well. Vijay, Phil, Ernie (give him a slight break because of injury), Goose, Sergio - none of them really challenge Tiger's dominance. Regardless of what is written in history about Tiger there will never be the great rivalries that Jack had to contend with. Hopefully the new guys like Holmes etc will start to crank it up. Golf has been in the main very boring for last 10 years IMO.
