  • Broke 100

Well, I finally made it into double digits--barely! I shot a 99 yesterday, a blustery winter day, about 45 degrees and winds gusting to 30 mph or so. But it's my first time south of 100 so I thought I'd post it.

Since it's winter, I haven't been playing that much, and even though I spent some time swinging clubs before starting the round, I felt stiff and awkward for a while. The first few holes were 6s and 7s, and I was having a lot of trouble with the irons. The greens were...in rough shape. Even though the ground was pretty hard, they were slow and I seemed to be putting everything way short, and 3-putting a lot.

But after a few holes I felt loosened up. And I must thank our own LowPost42 for the "thriver" he built me, because I just wasn't missing fairways, and that definitely helped me out. So after I was warmed up, I was playing mostly bogeys. Then I shot three pars in a row, which I've *never* done. My putting remained pretty bad through the whole round, or else I might have broken 90. But that's okay. I broke 100 mainly by reasonably good ball striking, after a pretty shakey start, and I feel good about it.

Congratulations Todd - a fine achievement.

Here's to more sub-100 rounds (and less sub-zero days!)

I got out again yesterday, but only had time for 9 holes. I shot a 48, and was pleased with that. In fact, I achieved two personal bests yesterday. First, I parred 4 holes in a row! I never before parred more than two in a row, so that was pretty cool. Second, one of them was a par 5. I never before shot par on any par 5 hole, anywhere.

Congrats!! Sounds like you are putting everything together and will be in for a year of career bests! Just remember, don't get too far ahead of yourself - keep working on things at teh pace you have been. AND remember law #2:

LAW 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former.

lol Getting under 100 is a great accomplishment and many golfers will never see double digits after 18 holes. Keep up the work. It must feel really good reviewing your posts from when you started all the way to this post.

That's great Todd! Feels good huh? See how easy golf is?

I feel for you guys up north, I get to play at least four times a week down here in sunny Florida. My brother is coming down from New York next week. He can't wait to play in the warm weather. My wife won't be seeing me for the week he will be here. We have never played a round of golf together, I'm really looking forward to it.

Todd, thanks for sharing the good news.

              Tom

                Hey well done.
My only question is what the hell are you doing on the other 5 holes to end up with a 48!?!?
I think course managment needs to be looked at if you are able to par more than half the holes and yet come in at ~12 over.

I don't think it was course management. The first few holes were about not being warmed up, hitting bad shots, etc.

I'd be (genuinely) interested to see your scores v par for the first 9, if you are cool with that

Well if you par'd 4 holes in a row you know youve got it in you and I bet you find that it will now take you far less time to break 90 now youve cracked the ton
