Hello!! I've been playing for two years. My handicap is 12. I think I am hitting my irons solid but the ball (pro v) doesn't stop. I hit the ball and after the ground with a good divot and transfering my weight to the left foot on the impact. I hit 130 meters with the 9 iron ( mizuno mp 30) but it bumps and rolls for 3 or 4 meters. How can I get backspin?. My irons are new. Will it be easyer when they were worn?. Thanks!!

Re: backspin
That is a pretty wide open question. If the ball is getting the right trajectory and you are hitting down on in (divot after ball), then you are getting backspin, that doesn't mean the ball is automatically going to stop or backup. The condition of the green plays a very BIG part in this, weather you htting into the wind vs with the wind, bent grass vs burmuda grass, green sloping towards you vs away from you, well watered vs hard and dry. So if you are hitting with the wind into a bent grass green with the grain running away from you and sloping away from you that has not been watered that day...you got NO CHANCE that the ball is going to stop, you must just play for the run.
People need to understand when they see pros backing balls up, they are playing with greens that are in excellant condition, well watered, usually sloping towards them, or they hit to the correct portion of the green that gives them the condition they seek to move the ball towards the hole, they are also playing with clubs that have very good grooves (clean and sharp), new balls, high spin balls from a well manicured fairway with a great lie.
You or most high handicapper, are playing from less then the greatest fairway into a green that may or may not have been watered, that was mowed by a guy named fred, who was out drinking the night before. Setup by a course superintendant that wouldn't what a stemp meter was if you hit him in the head with it. Using a ball that cost a buck, you have been hitting for the two rounds, from a club you cleaned last month, and then stand around trying to figure out why the ball didn't stop...lol
