    Shaft lenght for wedges

    Hi guys
    First of all, I'd like to thank all of you for the great tips and discussions.

    I have a question regarding shaft length and Wedges.
    I play Taylor Made 200 +1", 2* upright Irons. I'm 6'3" and got fitted a few yrs ago and I'm happy with my Irons.

    I'm thinking of getting new wedges AW,SW,LW. If I buy a standart Wedges can I to add a 1/2" or 1" (plug), or does it completely mess up the lie angle?

    I think, I would feel more comfortable on full wedge shots, can always grip down when needed.

    What are your thoughts on that?

    Hi talisker. Im the same as you as my irons are +1" and 2* upright. I recently purchased a new set of wedges regular size and found that i had to flex my knees too much and it did in the end affect my swing. I then in the end returned the LW and SW and ordered the same wedges custom made and they fitted perfectly with my other clubs so i would recommend having that done instead of buying a plug.

    Back to your question no it should not affect your shot however you may have to change your posture slightly. The main aim of having the lie angle 2* up is to help the club work with your swing and your height yet you can easily come around this and it should not affect your swing too much.

    P.s Just a quick question. Is your ball flight fairly high or higher than others?

      I see you perfectly understand my question...*S* I guess custom fit would be the way to go.
      Regarding the ballflight, on a full swing I have a high trajectory.

        Yes although having height is an advantage it can be annoying having to have all equipment custom made. but still it is for the best.

          Well, it is an investment that will last for a while.
          I'm doing fine with the regular wedges for most of the games. Usually towards the last few holes (or on a nine holer since, you are down in your knees at almost every shot) after walking and being in the sun for a few hours, I develop the tendency stand up early and skull on a full swing. Knowing that..... I overcorrect and end up with a high pull -> one for the rattlers *G*

            Why would you think that if your irons are +1" and +2° that you would be OK playing wedges that are -1" and -2° by comparison?

            Assuming that your clubs are standard length (we'll say 35") and standard lie (we'll say 64&#176:

            An increase of 1" will have them playing the equivalent of 2° up at standard length. Confusing, yes? In other words, after you extend them 1", you still need to get them bent up 2° (as your clubs are effectively 4° up from standard).

            In plain english, get them set to the rest of your irons.

              *G* well, that was my thought too. Nevertheless, I bet many people using custom fit irons, have standart length Wedges since the Iron-sets usually are 3-PW. Then you go and buy a set of Wedges, standart length. You keep playing like that until you get better and start attacking the greens. Now the time has come when you finally start seriously bothering with the Wedges and say:

              Why would I think that if my irons are +1" and +2° that it is OK playing wedges that are -1" and -2° by comparison?

              I guess that explains my initial question and concern *S*?

                The Golfchannel showed a short sequence regarding the Wedge length last night.

                Like Lowpost42 mentioned in his reply, Dave Pelz (some Golf fitting Guru?) suggested to have the Gap and Sandwedge in the length matching your fitted Clubs and keep the Lobwedge the same length as the Sandwedge.
                If you don't use a Gapwedge, he advises to have the Sand/ and Lobwedge each in different length in relation to your fitted Clubs.

                I guess that summs it up.
