3 wood off the fairway
I use the Cobra 440 driver and am quite happy with the results. I recently bought the Cobra 3 wood but do not get a clean connection off the fairway. I try to use the same swing as when i am driving the ball but no success. Any tips?

The driver and 3 wood require different swings. Driver you hit on the up swing, 3 wood you have to hit down on....that how I do it anyways. -

Same swing, both are a sweeping motion, the difference is that as GoldJeep pointed out is you hit your driver on the upswing. But, you do not hit down on a 3 wood - you need to have a sweeping motion with it as well, catching the ball at the bottom of your swing.Comment

I would add to this that you can't have a sweeping motion swing unless you have hips open, straight left arm, and inside out swing at impact. Big face on the drive combined with no fat shots due to the tee, allows more serious errors in the impact zone to happen with a driver over a fairway wood.Originally posted by gord962
Therefore, if you have swing errors at impact, generally they will be much worse with longer clubs or iron on the fairway (vs short irons) due to the fact that these longer clubs are a longer lever, and non-correct impacts generally are highly dependant on wrist angle and/or armangles. (If you are holding onto a short stick, the end goes up a lot less with the same wrist motion vs the end going up a lot more with a long stick with the same wrist action.)
Thus, this is why pros can hit the long stuff.
