Re: What do you tell the wife?

If you feel guilty about being on the golf course, it is hard to concentrate and this can lead to higher scores. You need to work out a comprimise so that she is not angry and you can play without feeling the pressure of needing to be back home. For example, sometimes I play 9 holes early in the morning on weekends and am back before anybody gets up. I would try and make a clear plan that is agreeable to both of you.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

I get out EARLY every Saturday morning to get my round in. Usually, we tee off at 6:30am PST. This enables me to get 18 in, have a cold-one in the club house as we "square-up" the cards, and I'm home between 12:00 and 1:00 to spend time with the family.
Come Sunday morning - I'll get up early with the kids and she'll sleep in, wake up, and go shopping with her friends if she pleases.
In a nut-shell: Saturday is my "golf-day" and Sunday is her day! Works well for us.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Speaking from a wife's point of view .... I don't mind at all if my husband plays golf as long as it doesn't take up the entire weekend every weekend! And, I'd rather he get the exercise. Golf on weekends never seems to be an issue as it happens one or two weekend days per month, and isn't for the whole day, just 18 holes or about five or six hours or so with travel. We usually have plans to do something else together after the round is done, which gives the rest of us at home something to look forward to. Sometimes we golf together, but with two small children it can be hard to find a babysitter. The other days that he golfs are during the week, either at sunrise before going to work or in the late afternoon (he leaves work early). In any event, those times seem to be preferred by him as the course is less crowded.

My girlfriend would hit the roof if she knew I was getting fitted for some new irons today! I'm planning on getting either a set of Ping G5s or Cobra 3400s... these I don't need to hide... when they arrive at my pro shop, I'm selling the irons I already own to a friend... (AKA the switcheroo , I do this a lot with computer parts too )

I told her all the clubs in my signature cost £300.... Truth is... it's closer to £1000

Re: What do you tell the wife?

I guess i must be one of the lucky ones.

I work 12 hour nightshift , as a team leader in a wines and spirits bottling plant, i work on a 4 on ,4 off rota. my wife works full time during the day and every second saturday. so you see i'm free on my days off to play as much golf as i like ( cash providing of course ). On my days off i devote the evenings entirely to my wife. MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN.

              regards ..terry

The wife is letting me golf again. My crying worked.

I don't know where you come from, but my wife is more than just a woman from the dark ages, that I drag around by the hair. We are not knuckle draggers. She is my partner in everything. She keeps me straight when I stray. She supports me, I support her. She wants me to succeed. She reminds me of more important things in life.
If you were doing something that would be negative for you over the long or short term, your wife saw and recognized this from a 3rd person point of view, but didn't tell you, you continued to do so until it was too late & it harmed your personal wellbeing physically or financially, who is to blame? you or the wife?

Golf is a priority in my life, but I can't let it interfere with my family plan & long/short term goals in life.

My original post was more of a vent, also asking for life experiences of how others have dealt with the issue.

I didn't appreciate your ignorance to the matter.
                          Thanks tho

I think you doing fine...its not being whipped moreso than trying to live peacably with your wife....LOL

You just have to work "golf" around your family. Since your wife does not like the game of golf.....do family stuff...in the evening go in the backyard and work on your chipping and other touch shots.

Like one of the ladies said, WINE and DINE your wife and spoil her and let her know how important golf is....compromise with her for 2 out of 4 Saturdays in the morning when u can play....AND make sure you do the stuff you promised on the other days......

YOU ARE NOT whipped...you are just a good fammily man that cares about your wife's feelings......

                              YOU THE MAN!!!!
