  • Qualifying for Highschool team

Guys, Im just wondering how your highschool judges/judged who got on the team. Was it the lowest scores out of the kids that tried out? Because if im not mistaken thats what it is for most schools correct?

Edit: check the second reply of the thread and read my story

I would appreciate some feedback, thanks guys

Well I have a very contreversial story for you guys then.

Listen to this. Yesterday we had our tryouts and we played 9 holes, apparently the top 4 made the team. I ended up finishing tied with two others for second place at 42 (Par 36). The first place kid got 40. The others shot in the high 40s and the one in particular shot 48. So the coach (i wouldnt call him a coach, hes just a dumbfounded man who doesnt know whats going on) said he would call later on that night about who made the team. So here I was tied for second and obviously in the top 4, and I am waiting up till 11 oclock for a phone call....I called some other kids and they already had recieved one. I then proceed to talk to one of the other kids that didnt make the team and he said that the kid that shot 48 made the team and I got shafted. How could this happen? I tied for second and the two other kids I tied with at 42 made the team and the other kid who shot 6 STROKES above me made the team. Well, apparently its all politics because the kid was on the hockey team (who he also coached) and I think the kid's parents may know the coach personally therefore I totally got screwed. What do you guys think of that? I mean I certainly should have made the team right?

I talked to the principal today and apparently she is friends with the coach which makes it even more ridiculous. Im just heartbroken and i was pretty angry about it. When I called the coach and he wouldnt give me an explanation I just laughed and am still trying to laugh it off. Its kinda hard when I totally got shafted though.

Thanks man. Its just demoralizing when something like that happens you know? I mean I deserved to make the team, and the only thing that held me back was a coach who knew one of the players from a past sport and decided to take him even though he shot 6 strokes higher than me. I mean the only thing I can take out of this is the fact that I know myself that I cant do anything about what happened yesterday, I did what I had to do by shooting in the top 4, and apparently that wasnt enough. But oh well you know, this will only motivate me more in the sense that I wanna compete and show I deserved to be on the team, but im not gonna go playing golf everyday to prove this bum wrong.

My son is on the team. They take 12 students, lowest total after 3 rounds. In competition, six scores count. Coach tries to get in all players and varies those six depending on the strength of the competition. In your case, I would write a letter to the Athletic director of the school district and cc a letter to the Superintendent of schools and prinicipal.

I agree, the person to complain to is the Athletic director. The Superintendent should also be a little less bias. Then if all else fails there is the school board.

You can always bring up the word lawyer and that will get people jumping.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah we're going to be writing a letter to the superintendent of the board. Its just plain ridiculous. Alot of people around the school know about this situation and believe that it is unfair too. I requested to talk with the gym head and she said she already heard and shes going to be talking with him.

The one nice thing about golf at all levels, is that score is the only thing that counts.

its a disgrace but sometimes these thing happen in life having said that fight it to the end to get the decision changed its not sour grapes but a justified grievance!
remember dont be afraid to confront anyone when you know you are 100% in the right!
                    good luck!

                        Re: Qualifying for Highschool team

you should take a jab at his moral character, say something like "you would think since teachers and coaches are given the responsibility to help guide young people through life, and shape a childs vaulues, they would do so be setting a good example. You would also think that part of that good example would be upholding some kind of moral values" say something like that and keep it short sweet, then walk away while not responding to any reply he may have
