  • Help!!!

    Hello,
I have a problem with not squaring the face at impact and also scooping which adds wayyyy to much loft on my clubs...it's especially frusterating with my driver. Do you know any good, inexpensive training aids for this?

    -thanks

    Re: Help!!!

I have never tried, but I head weighted clubs are goo to help stop casting

but to stop casting wihtout training, the best thing to do IMO is to have a really loose grip. you can't have too loose a grip untill you have thrown your club down range during a swing. the looser the farther you will hit. not only will it bee impossible to cast (because the club is too heavy to cast down, and the only way to brong it down is to unwind and let the club fall naturally) but it will also give you A LOT more lag, power, and proper release of the club.

Not squaring the club face up. What is your ball flight? Hooks, slices, pushes, or pulls? Different ball flights have different causes. GJS

assuming you have the proper grip, you can try toe up to toe up drill. take 1/2 swings - toe up backswing and toe up on the through swing. this should get you the idea of squaring the club. lofting the club occurs when the left wrist breaks down at impact - i.e is not flat and in line with the shaft. my guess is that both issues are part of the same problem so try the above drill and see how it works out.

half way back the toe should not point straight up, if it does then you have too much clubface rotation

                Re: Help!!!

the toe up to toe up drill is a well recognized drill to help square the face at impact.

Shooting, according to what you are advocating, the face would be slighly closed at the 1/2 way point prior to hinging. I'm not sure this is commonly accepted.

Other comments from the pros about the toe up to toe up drill would be appreciated for clarification.

toe pointing straight up has too much fanning
yes, at the 1/2 point the club would be what you call closed,

                    Re: Help!!!

I have heard from many pros that your toe should be up half way back. another way oy see it is.... you club should never be open or closed throughout the whole swing. it should always be parrellel to the swing path then it will always be square at impact. the flatter your swing is, the more the toe will be up and open, and also the steeper your swing is the more closed it will look. HTH

as far as my earlier post it isn't a fix all tip. but i have found it to help stop casting, if that was your problem.

guys, with all due respect, if you think the toe should point STRAIGHT up half way back you need to study some pictures and see where the pros are. The book swing like a pro does a good job talking about this. Toe should point at about 11:30 position

yea, that is what I said. should be square the whole swing...... the only way to get the loe strait up would be it you had a flat baseball swing. and if you have a litteraly 90* steep swing, you toes should point towards the target half way back. but for the average 45* looking swing the loe should be pointing about closer to 10:30. the drive would be around 11:00 maybee 11:30 depending how flat a swing you have and the PW should be 9:30-10:00.

Thanks a lot for all of the advice. I usually dont slice but when I do it is very bad. (kinda weird). Normally, I hit straight but high and not even 175 yards. I have a 9* driver too???? hmm

                            Re: Help!!!

I used to hit like that, just keep at it and know that technique is EVERYTHING. I have loosened up my swing, and slowed down my tempo a lot! oddly enough i got about 150yds difference. Some people don't like say that accuarcy is more inmportant than power, but i have found with the correct power acccuracy will come more naturally. I don't care if you how fast you turn your core and whip your hands around, if you are not loose you are adding tension and killing power. it is like a rusty hinge versus a greesed up hinge. it you shut a door with the force of say 10 mph but have a rusty hinge the door is only going to be moving 4 mph as it closes..... but if you only shut the door with a force of 6mph but the door is greased the door will shut at 6mph. (you understand that analogy) don't worry about swinging hard, worry about swinging loose. you will find about 60-70 yds difference. as far as the other 50-60 yds i get, read my other post on the tread
"why the *** can't I follow through" HTH it is hard to explain online
