That's how I would handle it, if your not playing for anything "no big deal", my guess is that everyone who has golfed with him is just laughing at him and those who haven't have heard about him. If your playing for something then I would make sure (since he always won in the past) to get strokes and then keep score, after each hole to ask him what he got or just keep track and write down the right score. Then if he gives the wrong answer, act suprised then go back and re add them ("well weren't you hitting 4 there and 2 putt?").
That or find another 4th, which is what I would do but work does complicate the matter.
