  • O what a day!

    What a day, O what a day!

Played a double bogey free round of 78 with one 3 putt. I really wish I would have made that 4 footer to save par! Was driving the ball out of this world. I couldn’t make a bad swing. Only thing that could have been better was the putting. Like I said, one 3 putt and couldn’t make a birdie putt. Only had 1 birdie.

However…We decided to play another 9. It was pretty hot. I was feeling loose. Back felt great. Started off with a par, then another par, then another par, and yet ANOTHER par. Came up to the back to back par 5s. On in 2 on the 1st, made birdie. JUST over for on in 2 on the 2nd par 5. MADE BIRDIE! Bogey on the next L And 2 more PARS in a row!!!!

35 on a par 36!!!! 1st time ever under par. I wish I wasn’t so freaking tired and that the storms weren’t rolling in or I would have gone for 9 more.

BTW played Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, PA if anyone is from that area.

Just wanted to share my glory. My only tip to my success….. I hit about 50 balls about 30 minutes before playing. I also putted for about 10 minutes. I also stretched like crazy. I was relaxed and loose. My body had an easy time making swings. All I can say is get a good warm-up when you can!

    Re: O what a day!

    Randomhero,

Firstly well done, it sounds like a great round.

You have stumbled across the difference between a single figure h/capper and a 20+ (CHIPPING & PUTTING)
Add your scores up again and count the great putts you had and then add that number to your score, you may find this now gives you a score something around what you normally achieve.

Simply by getting up and down you score well, miss thoses great putts and you have a steady round.

Great to here you prepared well and got what you deserved, you only get out of golf what you put in and sometimes a little less.........

      Re: O what a day!

You make a great point! I did make one 15 footer to save par. I made a 30 foot birdie put. So thats 2! Now I am at an 81. And thats about what I normally shoot at that course, 8-9 handicap (par 72). It's a Don Ross course. Pretty tuff. A bit of target golf at times and it makes you think, but also gives you some wide open holes to go at. Some really tuff & long par 3s (#16 is 181 to the front ALL uphill).

I have put a lot in. I work on my swing ALMOST every day. I am at the range twice a week and try to play once a week. My goal is 20 rounds a year, at least. If I worked on my putting, which most of my problem is speed control, I could drop down to a true 5-6 handicap.

I noticed your title. For me, a huge part of this game is mental. For example, I was hitting my PW so good. I was actually spinning it back because of the pure contact I was making. Instead of hitting my SW on a 100yd shot, I hit half a PW 10 foot from the pin. I also hit about 7 fairways in a row, but then stepped up and sliced one. Instead of loosing my cool, I made a smart play and pitched out. I then scoarched a wood to the front edge and got up and down.

Ususally when I make a bad shot, it spirals out of control from there. This day, I just shook it off and went on strong.

      Thanks

        Re: O what a day!

        ...forgot to point this out...

I did miss to birdie putts under 10 feet

Best case scoring could have been a 75

But i'll take the 78 and the 0.5 stoke off my handi and smile

          Re: O what a day!

If you are interested in the mental side then send me your e-mail address through private messaging and I will send out a "scoring for par" document to help you achieve your goal.

It works out how you score par with three putts and bogeys etc.......a really good read.
