  • Shaft weight

I have a problem with coming down too quick from the top of the backswing. When i concentrate on slowing it down, my shots improve. Knowing that the problem is related to too quick a downswing, is it possible, or has anyone any information on getting heavier shafts fitted. i am thinking that the extra weight would stop this problem like the momentus training wedge. Maybe this is a stupid thought but i would appreciate any info.

    Regards,
    Robert

    Re: Shaft weight

i haven;t tried weighted clubs before, but what i do to not come down to quick is grip the club realy loose so that the club feels like a weighted club and grip the club with 3 finger overlap. it is really hard to come down quick when you barley have a grip on it. maybe not such a big backswing. try for a tighter coil (less hip turn and as much sholder turn as youcan) and less lenght of a backswing, that way you can start as fast as you want and keep up that speed through impact. ie daly has a huge backswing, but he accelerates very gradual. so if you accerate fast, have a shorter backswing, but a tighter coil

when you sya release are you talking about casting? or breaking down of the left wrist?

      Re: Shaft weight

I'm pretty sure that I've read where if a club gets too light, it's tough to control. Try a heavier shaft. I know I prefer them in my driver (currently playing a 78g X flex and loving it).

A cheaper alternative you might like to try first is having a club fitter check the swing weight of your club( i.e. D2, D4, ect.). You can add swing weight relatively cheap compared to the price of a new shaft. They can also help you decide where the extra weight should go. The handle or nearer the club head. I would also reccommend hitting some demo clubs with different weights or even different shafts.
