    City Championship

    My local course that im a member at is holding a City Championship, i plan on entering it.

    Last years winner shot 71-73(par 72) over a 2 day period to win

    ive been shooting 74-76, but each time im doing better, and ill be going out a bunch in the next 2 weeks

    it would be awesome to win the city championship and have not even been playing golf for a year

    ive been playing good, ive just been playing a little stupid, im gonna play serious and smart the next times out to see how it goes

    i just need to make a couple more 15 footers for birdie, i make about 1 around from that far, well i need to make more birdies bascially, only averaging 2 a round, i never really have any blowup holes, first double bogey in a while was yesterday when i shot 37, had one birdie and rest pars

    i know the course like the back of my hand but is there anyway esle i can get ready for it?

    Figure out what club you need to hit to the short par 4's where you would be at a full SW in (probably 100 yards). Remember to take the pin position in consideration. So if it is in the front that day, play to 110..etc.

    The Par 5's are your key. Make birdie there and you are 4 under. Play the hole backwards in your head. Where do you want to be to be able to hit that full SW in from a level lie. Play a par 4 in your head to that point. It may be something rediculas like a 3w off the tee and an 8i to that point. You hitting an 8i to a perfect spot is better then trying to be very close to the green where there is some deep rough, or difficult pin where you are too close to spin it.

    Unless you get there in 2 and a 50% or more chance of being on the green should you try to get there. This is probably the hardest thing to do in a tournament...making that decision.

    Then the par 3's are what they are. Play smart to the fat of the green. Most par 3's are designed to have a single bail-out area and danger everywhere else. They will put the pins in the danger zones and this is inviting to try to make the hero shot. Resist that temptation. Play for a 3 and you will make it. Play for a 2 and you will make 4's and 5's more often then the 2.

    So have your pin positions figured out the day before (they usually show them in little dots on the green the day of the practice round). If not, ask the pro if they are putting the pin positions on cards where you are told the distance from the front and left or right side. And get the card before the round to see where you are going to be able to find the easy pins, and stay clear of the hard ones.

    On the holes where you have an easy pin, be sure to play the hole slightly more aggressivly... playing at the pin, or playing inside the magic 100 yd in point.

    On the hard pins, stay away and play to the fat. Take the 3w off the tee and be sure to be in the fairway. This position is greatly benificial to get the right distance and spin to help you stay on the greens.

      appreciate it! ill be going out tonight, ill try to use some of these methods, there is only one par 5 i can reach in two regularly, the others are methodically guarded by water and i have to hit some big drives to get the chance to go in 2
