  • Have you got balls... ??

    Hey folks,
This site is one of the best I have been part of, and it is great to take in all the tips and advice, keep it going.
Now my request for further advice, I have just got back into the swing of things and am starting to hit the ball pretty well and I am starting to look at golf in a more serious light (still have a blast though ) Does the type of ball you use really make a difference to your game and if so which ball should I choose that won't send me broke. Any advice is greatly appreciated, Cheers Wayne

    Hi pal.

Regardless of which ball you use , it is more important to always try to play with the same make and type of ball . Once you do this , your short game and long game will become more consistant.

I use Pinnacle gold, an excellent mid price ball.

    good luck

aftford has it exactly. Find a ball you like, then play it exclusively. That way, you can really dial in your distances, and you'll know how it reacts on greens.

Thanks guys for your time and advice, I actually had a look in my bag this morning, you know I had 9 different brands of ball rattling around all of different condition, so I emptied them out blew the moths out of the wallet and wandered into the pro shop and had a word with the pro ( you could call him my coach as he has been the only bloke I have ever had lessons with) he knows my game and swing pretty well and he threw me a box of Maxfli - Noodle Rotini so hopefully over the next couple of rounds I will get the feel for them and start to see some consistancy (I wonder if they float ) Cheers, Wayne

          Hi Wayne,

The noodle is a good all-around ball. Don't throw out those other balls - they'll make fine shag bag balls.

This is a link to ConsumerReports.org. It rated golfballs 5/06. I do not remember who send the link to the forum, but I bookmarked it.

              Hi,

Useing a golf ball which suits your game and you like the feel of can take probbaly 1-2 strokes off your score a round. Why? Because with chip shots and approach shots you know how it is going to react time after time and how much it will cheqe up in your chip shots.

A good ball for a good price, is the PINNACLE EXCEPTION the NEW pinnacle ball. I think for a pack of 4 balls it is 5 pounds 50 pence. Which is good.

I personally use the Titliest ProV1 in competition but I get my Dad to buy my balls HE HE HE !

Thanks for the heads-up! I read the article last night and promptly went out and brought home a dozen of those Nike 'Power Distance-power soft' balls. Chipped a few in the backyard with GREAT results. Feel & spin are better than the Maxfli Revolution Tour balls I recently purchased. Putted some in the living room about 1/2 hour ago. I had my wife line a Nike , Callaway HX Blue , Maxfli Rev tour , Callaway Hot , and a Pro-V1. I gotta tell ya , that nike ball is sweet for being the 'cheapest' ball I have . I'm gonna take 'em to the course tomorrow for a REAL test drive. So far ... Consumer Reports is right on. There is nothing like un-biased testing. No bull... just honest results.
Final grading on the Nike ball will come tomorrow after the 'Big Stick' sends 'em for a few rides ! Hahaha.....

Re: Have you got balls... ??

I play the Titleist Pro V1. I agree that it is best to pick one ball and stick with it. Playing multiple balls with varying conditions is too much to ask. Also, I would personally never play a salvaged ball found on a course. The ball compression is probably not going to be accurate and this will cause problems with distance control. I stick with new balls and never store them in a hot location.
