  • Unique tournaments?

What is the most unique tournament you've played in, heard of, or imagined playing? By this I mean tournaments such as a 3 club plus putter tournament.

    Re: Unique tournaments?

For me, it was a fun mixed tournament. The first hole is a dogleg right, marked lat hazard. The rule was if you try to cut the corner and fail, you have to treat it like it's lost in a water hazard (ie you can't play it from in the hazard).
    The second hole was CTP.
The third hole was CT the line - there was a straight piece of rope in the fairway 200 yards out. (I still said 'screw it', and proceeded to bomb driver).
The fourth hole had the tee chalks moved halfway to the hole (a par 3). This made a 130 yard par 3 a 65 yard par 3. That was really interesting.
The fifth hole had a 4L ice cream bucket inverted at the pin, with 4 'mouse holes' cut in it. Needless to say, no one was dropping 30 foot putts. In fact, some people had trouble dropping 1 foot putts!
The sixth hole had numbered croquet wickets setup on the green. Putt through them all, then putt out!
The seventh hole was neat - one player played tee to green, then the other player putted. While blindfolded. With instructions from the player who played tee to green.
The eighth hole had a ramp built around the pin. So, it was the classic putting challenge: Hit it too hard, it runs down the other side. Not hard enough, and the ball comes back. The slope was such that every putt was 6 feet or more.
The ninth is a short par 4. So you hit from the ladies tee, while sitting in a chair.

The back nine wasn't that interesting as we played our own balls (the first 3 holes, you added up both scores, the next three you took the best score, and the next three you took the worst score).

But the most unique I've played in, by far!

sounds strange but also fun, the most unique competition ive played in was a juior comp where we were only allowed to play with just a 5 or a 6 iron and a putter, i did not enjoy this as i am one of those players that likes to bomb the drives rather than hitting an iron off the tee

My brother was just telling me about a tournament he played in Houston last weekend.

Depending on the hole you had to choose different clubs. Or certain people couldn't drive, etc. It was a 4 man scramble.

I think it was a par 5, but he said each player had to choose a different club to play the hole with. One choose something to get off the tee with, next choose a could second shot club, next a wedge to get into the green and the last one choose a putter.

Another one they had to all play the hole with a 5 iron and putter.

Once a year at my home course they do a cross country tournament. 4 man scramble but you play from 1 tee box to 2 green. I haven't played in it but some of the holes cut accross the OB. They just mix and match tee box with green.

              Re: Unique tournaments?

We had one hole where you had to hit "wrong handed" off the tee. with these old persimmons. How do YOU spell impossible?
