    Your Golf Course Preference

    Thinking about changing a few things on the course, but for some reason I think people prefer an easiest course as possible. Tell me what you prefer...and state your handicap so we can get an understanding of how good or bad you really are.

    Do you want the course to play as easy as possible so you will shoot lower scores?

    Slower greens or faster greens?

    Do you absolutely hate hitting into bunkers, and would you prefer just a few on the course?

    Would you like to see more fairway bunkers that penalize the longer hitters?

    More Challenging pin(hole) placements or easy as possible?

    i'm a bit of a golfing nomad and love to experience all types of courses long, short, hilly, flat, parkland and links, . every course i have played has had their own unique features which make them really enjoyable.

      To be honest, the courses I enjoy the most are split 9's.

      Osprey Links in North Bay is one such course. The front 9 is links style (pretty flat with deep, coarse bunkers, and hella windy), and the back 9 is (I still don't know what the name of non-links golf is).

      Complete with some pretty interesting elevation changes (like a 78 yard par 3 that's 30 yards downhill).

      I score best on dog tracks - wide open spaces that don't punish wayward tee shots. But I like variety. Even though I'm a high-capper, I like to be challenged. If I want point and shoot golf, I'll play TW06 on my PS2.

      The big thing for me is having nice sand in the bunkers, and having relatively tough rough. I like being punished for leaving the fairway - it makes me feel like I'm playing a golf course, not a dog track.

      FWIW, a 68 on a course with a slope&rating (or SSS) at the lower end of the scale is not as rewarding as a higher score on a tougher course. I find the tougher courses easier to play (probably because I'm going to get penalized for spraying the ball off the tee, anyway).

        I would love to play on a golf course with firm fairways and soft greens.

        At my local course we never seem to have good scoring conditions. From December to May the course is a mudbath and although the ball stops on the green you can't reach some of the par 4's. We play from the same tee's throughout the year. I will probably use a 3 wood 7 times at par 4's.

        In June and July the course becomes rock hard and the greens become impossible to stop the ball on. Even with lob wedges you have to land the ball about 40 yards short of the green and hope you get the right bounces. The course becomes much shorter and most par 4's are wedge second shot but getting the ball to stay on the green is another matter.

        Today I hit shot after shot straight at the flag only to see the ball bounce sideways and finish either in a bunker or leaving me with an impossible chip.

        August to November are the best scoring conditions when the greens become more softer.
