Are range balls made not to travel long distances?
The reason I ask is that at the driving range I hit the ball 200yds with my driver, but out on my local course on the flat par 5 I hit a top flite ball 240yds.
Same with my irons. My 9 iron I hit 120yds on the range and 135yds on the course.

Yes, range balls do not go as far! They are poor quality and most range balls go around 20% less than what the normal golf ball goes!

      Re: Range Balls

If you search this site you'll find many threads on this topic. From what I remember, the jury is out. If the balls at your range are old and worn out they will not go as far as brand new balls that's for sure. Worn balls won't have the same aerodynamic properties (lift) and they'll have lost some of their "bounce" after being hit thousands of times.

Some have thought the distance markers might be inaccurate as well.

The only way to tell is to bring a few of your own used balls and see how far they go on that range as a means of comparison.
