  • Taping Face of Club .. Urgent!

    Hi,

Does anyone know if you are allowed to play a match with the driver face taped? I'm testing a new driver so they taped the face, but I'd like to use it tomorrow in my match to make sure I like it. I can't find this specifically in the RGCA Decisions book.

It's a tough call. If you add something to the face with the INTENT of changing how the ball comes off it, then you're in breach of rule 4-2.

After reading a few decisions, I think that the tape is OK. It's affixed to the club before the round starts (as opposed to during).

Maybe talk to the local rules guy at your club. I'm pretty sure as long as you don't take it off or add more than what you began with (ie if some falls off, you can put some back on), you're OK.

Thanks Lowpost, I ended up not using it. When I checked the USGA site there was a one liner specifically stating that no tape was allowed on the face.

          A somewhat redundant reply.
Rule 4-2, as mentioned above, forbids it.
